Putting a tiny piece of tissue around the sides in the neck socket fixes the loose TR heads.

I'd be fine with only one...but I can't find him without having to pay ludicrous shipping fees to Italy.

Having finally busted out Dai Atlas I understand what folks are complaining about. I love the toy, I'm glad I bought it, but he needs an aftermarket set (or at least some Shapeways wizardy) to fix his shortcomings. Grumble grumble...

No grumbles on my set. I can see why the waist bugs people, but I like the color scheme and he poses no problem. Well done for Dai Atlas and the team as the entire set has no issues

I can deal with the waist, but the hollow legs and Deluxe face are pretty disappointing. We really need something to fix those.

I'm the exact opposite. The legs don't bother me in person as much as I thought they would, the face never bothered me, but that waist design is complete trash.

I'm fine with the face. The legs don't make me happy but I don't hate them. The waist is definitely the biggest issue. I do love that Dai Atlas can transform into a single unit though. I wish BlackShadow could also!

    Ditto.

From what I can tell, the main issue is the space between the torso and the waist. It’s just enough space to allow it to wiggle. I wonder if a 3rd party could create a new waist that is just slightly higher, just bigger enough to be completely flush with the torso, preventing the wobble.

I think the idea was to give him a slight waist turn but the result is a torso flop every time you try to pick him up, where the torso attempts to lift up on the mechanism from being too heavy for the joint. That means it's a friction/gravity/torque issue. Yes, there is the solution of locking down the waist. That's what Aimless Misfire did by removing the chain and simply creating posts to lock into the waist portion. We can also wait for a third party to create something like hip locks that you can slide onto his waist.

But I think the best way to retain the look and intention of the designers is to find a way to increase the friction between the chain joint and the torso's sliding connector. If we can increase the friction, then the sliding connector will resist the torque caused by the weight of the torso itself. But it will need a fine balance because if you increase the friction too much, then the whole connector will seize up and damage the toy.

They could maybe eliminated the 2 chain links and just make a new single solid connection piece with the swivel put at the top where it gets pushed into the body, maybe even making the piece a little wider so it gives that friction to hold the upper body in place. That would probably eliminate the "waist swivel" but given there's barely any clearance to have rotation anyway it wouldn't be a great loss and would help the toy not be so hilariously bad.

My copy has a mostly strong waist joint. It has only a slight forward-back motion when fully locked in bot mode. I have noticed it takes an almost excessive amount of force to the get the waist chain to click into place (it will actually -click- if you push it far/hard enough) and isn't floppy. A small piece of cardboard or plastic to shim just behind the waist chain Dai's upper body stops the forward-back rocking.
