Alright, so I know what you're probably thinking. "Another stupid thread about a already highly discussed topic? Not again!"

But honestly, I would like to share with you all an issue which has been bothering me highly these past few days. The issue being the Dinobots in Age of Extinction.

When reading people's reactions on these threads, I see the same comment placed repetitively by multiple users, the comment in one variation being "The Dinobots were sh*t! They didn't do anything!" And "They were shoehorned in at the last minute!" And of course, "It was all Michael Bay's fault! He ruined the Dinobots too!"

Now I ask you, what if they were not "shoehorned" in as many say? We all remember that Grimlock was one of the first things we saw in the trailers, so they were obviously not last-minute. Perhaps this was, for say, an introduction of sorts. There were quite a few Dinobots, and the story brought their involvement in later, meaning there wasn't much time for "Hey I'm Grimlock, that's Strafe, that's Slug,..etc.)

The Autobots were being completely outnumbered by the vehicons, Hound was out of ammo and on the verge or being overwhelmed, along with Bumblebee. Optimus, Drift, and Crosshairs had crashed quite a few miles away from the main action. They had a pod with Legendary Warriors in it. Optimus quickly fought and gained their respect, and unleashed pure hell on Galvatron's forces.

So to those who say the Dinobots didn't do anything, honestly, I believe you are wrong. They won most of the battle by eliminating the remainder of vehicons in the city.

There will be a TF5, so as mentioned earlier, what if this was just their introduction? Their involvement in these films may very much increase in the next one.

After all, every character needs to have an introduction.

    Just my two cents.

Micheal Bay is doing the same with the Dinobots like they did in G1, the Autobots only used the Dinobots when something big happened and in AOE the Autobots needed them to kill the Vehicons and let them live in the wild or something.

The dinobot's well in theory not the dinobot's. The knights really couldn't speak in the film as they had only just been brought back on line by Optimus and have been in stasis for a good length of time so couldn't learn earths language's to be able to communicate with prime that way. It's seems a valid point in this instance that the knights/dinobots this film was an introduction of them to the franchise and we may see a lot more of them in the 5th and 6th film. I thought the parts they had in the film where done well but it was a shame it focused primarily on Grimlock and strafe I would of liked all dinobots to show what they could of done.

Agreed, the Knights are ancient, too. We don't know if they can even adapt to other languages other than their native one.

Why do I get the feeling that we won't be seeing any of the Dinobots in the next movie?

I think this movie was just a set up for a lot characters. Galvatron didn't really do that much either. Bay is just setting up all these characters for later movies.

I hope that no new characters are added to the Autobot cast for the next movie, at least not on Earth anyway. Prime might well meet someone out in space, but the team on Earth with the 4 guys left, plus the Dino's, and even Brains might turn up again. That's plenty, and they can build then on their established characters. Bring in some cons and give them some characterisation.

Yeah, they have plenty to work on already, no need for more characters, especially for the Autobots.

The reason Grimlock didn't talk is because Lockdown removed his voice box after capturing him, because a leader who can't give out commands is a lot funnier than just doing it to a normal bot. The other Dinobots, out of respect for their leader, then took a vow of silence.

The only thing I was really confused with:

Why did the "Legendary Knights" turn into dinosaurs?

I actually thought the beginning of the movie would tie-in with their assuming those forms, but there was no such connective tissue. They were just prisoners of Lockdown, who just happened to assume that form? Was there some omitted material from the script that would have elaborated on this?

some quality stuff in this thread.

i am on the side that the Dinobots were awesome and i absolutely loved their arrival scene. And they did what the Dinobots do..they were that ace in the autobots-hole....and i do like how they all survived and will certainly be in play for the other 2 movies.

TF4 was allot like TF1 in terms of set up..actually it was probably the movie that had the most pre-built in set up in terms of the dinobots, galvatron, lockdown's ship, the seed, the creators, & prime leaving for space.

exposition for film 5 or perhaps the makers decided everyone knows who these guys are for the most part.....im guessing they were around a long, long time & the only alt forms that were around the last time they were free were dinosaurs.

probably just a sleazy way to get little kids to ask their parents to see TF4 in the movies only to see ratchet's head on a spike.

Pretty sure that in a recent interview with Ehren Kruger that the original plan was to introduce them in TF5 as major characters (or something like that), but they said that they might as well should just introduce them in TF4
