The way Omega Supreme introduces himself to Megatron, in issue 19 of the Marvel comic, is beyond cheesy

"I am the guardian of the gates... the junction of your destruction... the laser lighting the way to your doom... the planner of your obsolescence... the furnace that fires your demise... I am the number you cannot compute, Decepticon."

 

In the original movie, I liked Megatron's line, "Why throw away your life so wrecklessly?"
But I disliked Prime's reply, "That's a question you should be asking yourself, Megatron."
It's kind of like, "I know you are, but what am I?" There's nothing clever about it.

 

To be fair, how else could you respond to that?

 

Don't say anything and shoot.

 

There's nothing clever about that either.

 

But with banter they're trying to be clever and, IMO, that line failed. Using a weapon isn't trying to be clever.

 

Maybe I’m giving too much credit but I’ve always interpreted it as Prime saying “maybe I’ll die but you’ve dedicated your life to a cause not worth fighting for. At the end of the day what do the Decepticons stand for? When you die what will be your legacy?”.
Again maybe it’s too much credit but that’s just my 2 cents.

 

So it's trying and failing to be clever vs not trying and not being clever.

 

A lot of BW Silverbolt's lines...

"Blackarachnia oh dark venom of my heart..." is a standout for me.


But really, I would not demean corniness so easily.

Well really, if you can't finish a millions-of-years-long war with a cheesy one-liner, what's even the point of it all?

We'll agree to differ. I was never really a fan of Han Solo to begin with.

The "give me your face" line just didn't seem right coming from Optimus.

 

Yeah that’s fair. I love Han, personally, but if you don’t I see why we’d disagree!


And yeah if that line came from G1 Optimus (or any other Optimus for that matter) it’d seem out of place imo. The Bayverse Prime is so distinct from the rest of the lot that it’s easy for me to separate them.

I actually liked that one... feels like TF cussing without being too cheesy.

I think it's Ken Sansom that delivers the line, and you can tell he's just thinking to himself "The hell am I even saying right now?"

 

I'd say a little of both!
