I don’t like either MS from Requiem for Vengeance that we’ve seen. To me they look like bad customs by someone who got a little too wild with the chisels and pla-plate lol

Torso done. Faster than I expected.

    20240604_142251.jpg

Accent on the exposed bits. And surprisingly there are a few. Key way molding on the armor.

    20240604_144527.jpg

A touch of the rose red around the armpit vents.

    20240604_163647.jpg

Pic out of order, I did it as an afterthought when I posted it to the waist.

    20240604_163925.jpg

The search eye sticks out a bit more than I thought.

    20240604_163829.jpg

And that's it for the torso. Next the arms.

EDIT! I built the backpack. Need to finish trimming and detail the verniers. The armor shell is detailed and put to the side.

I took this picture before cleaning up the accent stains and fitting the unit together properly.

Box art for the RG RX-78-2 Version 2.0!

They want to show some distinction between it an the original for obvious reasons.

    and... wait...

SIGH. ...I Just Don't Know if Japan will EVER shake off their persistent difficulties in comprehending the differentiation between "FLIGHT" and "FIGHT"

NGL, these pair of legs of the HGUC Zaku III might just be the least fun I've ever had in any build for quite some time....

    1000038364.jpg 1000038365.jpg

Just like any of your typical early-era HGUC kits from the early 2000s, there's massive seam lines that runs down from top to bottom at the very front on almost every part on these legs (Except for the black knee pad and the lower sections of the enormous feet), so you either had to do seam line removal or do some panel scribing if you want these legs to look presentable. I went with seam line removal to deal with these, and damn getting all of these seam line removed feels like it takes forever...

Also for some reason maybe it's just on my copy, but the way the black knee pad parts attaches to the lower legs straight up just sucks - Getting them in place feels like you're running the risk of snapping those thin pegs off at any seconds, and even when I got them attached they just aren't centered at all. I just straight up went "F**k it" by snapping those pegs off and glue the knee pad parts directly onto the lower legs.

Besides those, I also went and do some color-correcting by painting some of the missing colors, including the red for the inner sides of the vernier thrusters, the dark gray for the top part of the feet. etc.,

I just read the GKC article on the Akatsuki itself and it confirms something else I speculated about:
RG 1/144 Akatsuki Gundam (Oowashi Pack) - Release Info

"It will use *some* frame parts from the RG Aile Strike Gundam"

Looks like the arms and legs, probably the feet too.

One more thing: it says in this article the Shiranui pack will includes parts to combine it with the new ZEUS Silhouette pack. Clearly mentioning the Zeus pack as specifically included with the HGCE Destiny Spec 2. So no word if that pack gets its own standalone release at this time.

To be fair, they probably should check the armor after a fight, though. :D

The Engrish only adds to the legitimacy. Kind of like how "armed" and "armor" are treated for the Unicorn line. Full Armor Unicorn has no additional armor but is heavily armed. The Armed Armor Defense Extensions on the Banshee Norn and Perfectibility are in fact armed slabs of armor yet those aren't mounted on the Full Armor Unicorn.

Weather cleared up so finally finished my top 3 display. Anyone else have a specific type? These are the peak Gundam designs by Okawara, Gyobu, and Katoki as far as I'm concerned.

Backpack is done. Really... clever... keylock design.

    9ee94275-9e42-42a0-8243-906ae38c33bb-1_all_45789.jpg

The pack slides in and locks down into the back with the armor shell.

    Arm day!

Clipped and sorted shoulder armor from the rest. They really wanted to get away from the pressure clip designs of the older RG series with how this all locks together.

Admittedly an Astray has been on my radar for the longest time but for some reason there is no RG of the Sengoku. Really have no idea how both black and white Minas get RGs but no Sengoku.

Likewise the spot for top weeb suit is also disputed with Anavata and Efreet Nacht which once again wraps back to Gyobu and Katoki. I have the Anavata in the backlog already and am hoping Efreet Nacht gets a better kit as the HG doesn't do it for me. Same deal with the Vidar now that I think about it.

Isn't the Build Strike the only Build-series RG mold that exists?
They never even did the Build Mk.II or other main-character suits like the Amazing/Dark Matter Exia and all; I'd have expected those ahead of the Sengoku.

Yeah that always struck me as odd given that Build is the most blatant commercial. You'd think the redesigns would be pushed as that was the whole point of the animation.

Sengoku specifically was weird as it got a MG and the Astray is milked almost as much as the RX-78 and Unicorn. MK II and Exia should've been RGs first though.

The real head scratcher is Tequila. Why even bother with animating it if no kit?

To be fair, Build Strike had the "RG SYSTEM."

    20240131_205812.jpg

And the special edition with the sparkling clear RG frame is nice.
If only they had done the Universal Booster instead of the Full Package.

Back to the Eypon and where I stopped for the night. Each section of the skeletal frame for the arms are built, and loosely fit together while I get the armor in progress.

Can the RX-78 fly under its own power? I haven't watched the OG in like 9 years. I do recall it doing a lot of fighting though.

I think the Grandaddy could just boost itself for short distances in atmosphere...but I could be mistaken.

On another note, Moderoid Voltron will arrive this weekend, picked up an itty-bitty X-wing and Death Star II to go with the itty-bitty Millennium Falcon today and my not-MG not-Gundam Sniper...thing...will arrive tomorrow. Gonna be a busy couple of weeks!

I'm actually most surprised that we haven't gotten an Astray Blue Frame Second L in RG format yet, despite the existence of the Red Frame, Gold Frame Amatsu, and various P-Bandai recolors.
