Because gold is just an ugly color, accent or otherwise? I dunno what else to say, unless it's bright, polished, and/or leaning more on the orange side I just despise the color. It might as well be called puke yellow as far as I'm concerned. Hell there was a time in the late 90s/early 2000s where every figure that should have had yellow had gold instead, or worse that ugly brown. The 1/100 Wing Gundam kit even had painted gold parts... I hated it then, I hate it now.

Oh that old dollar store brittle gaudy gold that was guaranteed to break V fins, now it all makes sense. Those parts did indeed suck something fierce and I can totally get why that'd leave a bad taste some decades later.

    So something like this?

    upload_2024-6-3_11-29-44.png

Bandai busts out this gold finish sometimes and I always imagine this is what the yellow on Gundams is "supposed" to look like. I wish there was a company that produced this brighter, yellower gold in a bottle. The closest I've come to achieving this a shiny silver with clear warm yellow over top, but it's never an exact match. I did it for my RG GaoGaiGar and it wasn't bad per-se but it wasn't a match.

Oddly enough the MG Shiki 2.0 had a similar finish. Likewise the Might Gaine SMPs have it for the painted bits. It is baffling how rarely they bust it out given how much better it looks than the puke like modeled gold on their kits. Between their molded yellow and molded gold, I'd rather they stick to the molded yellow.

Who said anything about breaking? I just hated the idea of anything that would otherwise be yellow in media being given what essentially looks like a dirt bath when translated to plastic.
That's fairly close, but still not quite a warm enough shade for my tastes. Even then I still stand firm that a legitimate yellow just looks better as an accent color on mobile suits unless used as a deliberate decorative trim like on the Sinanju or Dozle's Zaku. Vague realism or not I just think a flat yellow pops JUST right for those details while gold accents make the palette more muted and just visually unpleasant to look at.

Army Painters "Bright Gold" - comes in regular brush and aibrush friendly versions

Amazon.com: Warpaints: Bright Gold 18ml : Arts, Crafts & Sewing

Its what I used on the trim for my Leo-S

EDIT: Do not use Tamiya or alcohol based clearcoats with Army Painters paints, especially metalics. They do not get along.

    The beam sword is done.

    20240603_114101.jpg

Flat black grip, and a touch of rose red for show.

    Torso time.

    20240603_121617.jpg

Ì didn't have much time to work today but everything is trimmed and ready to assemble.
I did build the cockpit hatch and put some Molotov chrome in the socket for the search eye.

    20240603_145714.jpg

When I cemented the two red parts of the abdomen, some seeped into the moveable yellow hatch and fused it closed. It really doesn't matter since there is no cockpit interior to peak at inside.

The GM III has joined Karaba.
    Screen Shot 2024-06-04 at 12.37.38 AM.png

I was a bit hesitant to apply faction decals since it comes with EFSF, Londo Bell, and Karaba options, but I decided to stay true to its appearances in ZZ (or at least the ones I can remember) since that's what the kit is branded as. The colors aren't totally accurate to the EFSF/Londo Bell ones in Unicorn anyway.

Also, @YellowCorvette your last photo was so nice I had to try to copy the pose somewhat. Keywords: try and somewhat (I was going off of memory).

    Screen Shot 2024-06-04 at 12.43.58 AM.png

In other news, I saw the Unicorn ReGelgu went out of stock on P-Bandai, then came back in stock for a moment, so I jumped on it and placed an order along with the GM II Desert Color Ver. and Zaku II FZ. I was able to get free shipping too, which was nice. Now I just have to wait and hope that Gilboa's Geara Zulu comes back in stock (why did I wait to order it??)

Oh yeah by the way, there's a free shipping coupon available for this month now. Here:

Digging the Destiny Spec II and Murasame Kai. I love the look of the Requiem for Vengeance Gundam, but holy balls, it is going to be absolute sticker hell.

    The Always Bulky, Zaku III

NGL, I had always wanted this kit for quite some time, and as soon as I somehow spotted this one only copy in the gaming hobby store nearby my Uni, I has to pick this one up.

Interesting, Bandai did a Blastoff with the latest Wing Zero and made the forehead/detail (which is the red/blue stripe on the Proto Zero EW, and Wing Zero EW) above the Neo Bird Mode's eye/camera censor the clear green part and left the actual eye in white.
Such a minor yet funny mistake, it still hast the same detail and everything just that the wrong part was colored in clear green and part separated.

You did the thing so now you are legally obligated by Gaijin Gunpla law to use the Zaku III in all comparison shots from here on out.

Soooo.... I might have gotten a slight start on my Zaoworkshop Oracle by putting the accompanying stand in some gunmetal paint.... I mean, I've been using it for Amazing Red Warrior so.... But, looks good IMHO.

Love the look of the MGSD Wing Zero, even though I wish it didn't transform haha. But the Requiem gundam ... even if I like the overall look, I don't think I can accept that facesculpt :/

I don't see as much of a goof but more like constraint on space to make that kind of molding for an SD kit. the stripe is part of the contour of the shield itself and the yellow dome fits into it.

I see a lot of light gray paint to do.

Is that the same White Knight as the one that was shown off a month or so ago?

Edit; unfamiliar with SRW but the Gunleon has a great color scheme.

TBH, I like to think the Gundam EX's Head could actually be a GM head with a Gundam-looking faceplate or mask half-hazardly slapped onto it to look more like a Gundam for intimidation purposes, in a similar manner to how the Tallgeese's head is just like the Leo's with a different faceplate/mask (which could explain why the proportions looks so uncanny, and I won't be surprised if that's the case in the show itself)

Yes, that's the final boss MS from the movie.
