G Gundam can also be blamed for the abundance of nonsense Gundam figures that flooded and subsequently warmed store shelves for years following the dropoff in Gundam's popularity in the west in the early 2000s, if not the direct cause of it.

As someone who appreciates UC Gundam but could never get into it as a series, I was so happy to see G Gundam. Best Gundam series ever to me. Relatively short, quick paced and good story and characters with the emphasis on short/quick paced. Every other Gundam story or series I try to watch puts me to sleep. It’s also great to see the G Gundam characters have a future in the Gundam Build series. Which was a total coincidence for me because I randomly started watching Gundam Build Fighters Try one day and really liked it so I watched the whole series and was treated to that welcome surprise at the end. It all made sense why I instantly liked it as opposed to the UC series I try to watch.

It helps that G Gundam doesn't take itself seriously all that much. Zombie powered Chinese Knockoff Zakus that literally cosplay as other Gundams in-universe? Master Asia being able to fight Mobile Suits with his bare hands? The world government decided with a giant robot tournament instead of something like the EFSF or some corrupt form of democracy? The fact the giant horse robot even exists in the first place?

It thrives in how utterly stupid it is and that's why it's so great.

I adore G Gundam. It is a fun show to watch, even with all it's weirdness.

Yes, G Gundam is a fun changeof pace from the UC stuffs (Especially back when it came out), but.... am I the only one that actually like how despite looking silly and over the top at first glance, G Gundam also does NOT abandoned the anti-war theme, can be very sad and emotional at times, and never ever treated all of the silly-looking things as quick dispensers for joke or punchlines?

Yes, things such as Tequila Gundam might looks silly at first glance, but the context behind its pilot is anything but "silly", and his story as a man who was extorted into being Neo Mexico's Gundam Fighter against his will, who was no longer willing to fight and would rather spend every last minute with his dying sister on their grandpa's home of Earth, and thus he escaped to Earth against order with his Tequila Gundam and becomed a wanted fugitive is quite sad and depressing...

Not only that, G Gundam never went out of its way to mock or made fun of these national stereotypes. The writers seemed to run with stereotypes that are at least somewhat "cool" or "positive", and most of the pilots of these "silly-looking" Gundams are still their own fully-fledged characters with their own motivations and personality, and not to mention they all are good fighters who can put out an actual fight.

One of the main heroes in the show for example, Neo America's Chibodee might be a bit loud-mouthed and bull-headed, but he's fundamentally a good-hearted and heroic person who represents the positive ideals of American exceptionalism and the American Dream, he's an actual character with his own backstory and motivation that inspires him to participate in the Gundam Fight. I can say the same for characters such as George De Sand, Sai Saishi and Master Asia, etc.,

Yes, Gundam Fight Tournament might looks over the top at first glance, but the reason why the Gundam Fights were even a thing? That was because all of the wars in the past had left Earth as nothing but a severely ruined and polluted hell hole, and that the various wars that turned the Earth into such s**hshow in the first place were so bad, that every country in the world would much rather do an Street Fighter-esque robot fight tournament to decide things over rather than allowing another war from breaking out. And even then it's far from an ideal solution; despite the Gundam Fight was meant to be a less bloody form of warfare because it could reduce human casualties, everything else about the Gundam Fight Tournament is still a "war" in all but name, as Earth was more or less treated by a few elites in outer space as nothing other than some giant playpen, the poorer civilians left behind on Earth have no say in the Gundam Fight's rules or consequences while the Gundam Fights wreck havoc across Earth causing collateral damages. And as a result, yes less people die, but the environmental and collateral damages across Earth never stopped...hence Master Asia. One could say his entire plan to cleanse the Earth from the human who did nothing but pollute it from his POV is a consequence of outer space's detachment from conflict, and he was so disgusted and disillusioned by all of these that he descended into villainy.

I checked out G Gundam because it looks over the top and silly, like some Saturday morning cartoon at first glance, but what really hooked me with the show at the end was the more mature anti-nationalism, anti-war and pro-ecological activism messages that G Gundam has, not to mention the discourse about learning to open yourself to your loved ones. G Gundam was willing to have fun, but it's also not even close to being the dumb fun, no brainer parody many write it off as and the show is not afraid to went all out and being mature, emotional and depressing when it needs to.

Exactly. I agree with all of the positives mentioned about G Gundam. Beyond the great story behind it, I’d say it’s the best of Gundam and Dragonball rolled into one. What’s better than a fast paced, good story with Gundams that can go Super Saiyan fight mode?!

Bringing it back around to the toys, I’ve said many times that if they started making G Gundam in the Metal Build or Metal Composite line, I’d be ruined finacially.:p

Launcher pack including its surplus components. Sorted, trimmed, and painting before assembling.

Some parts were already started, the rest get primed and coated in copper.

The expected sloppy mistakes to clean off, and then I can fill in the areas I have marked for dark gray.

I will echo all the praise for G Gundam. It's fantastic!
I'm always confused of the ire against G Gundam from UC stalwarts. I mean, have you actually seen UC?! Many, many things are more ridiculous in UC because it takes itself so seriously.

    Time-travel in Narrative?
Victory with MS inside giant wheels? Heck, even V-gundam having multiple arms and legs ready to go, but supposedly it's a one-of-a-kind super suite built by very few people with no base or resources?
All of the warped Newtype nonsense. Unicorn sure, but I'll question the most sacred UC of all. It is patently ridiculous that in Char's Counterattack Amuro moves an asteroid with mental power!
Edit: don't get me wrong. I like UC, but I fully recognize its out there silliness. I appreciate G Gundam because it leans into it so much :)

And they say that G Gundam is ridiculous. :eyeroll

Started the prep-work for my next kit, the RE/100 Lindwurm.
Wanted to keep things a little bit simpler on this next one, as I need to make sure I'm completely done before May 15.
Hopefully not having a full inner-frame to paint will keep this one going a little faster (famous last words).

It's a pretty big kit, though; much bigger than the usual Wing and Seed MGs that I've mostly worked on in recent years.
No major mods planned; mostly aiming for a custom color-scheme that I've had in mind for a while now.

The ammo drum is done. Now for the rest of the shoulder weapon system.

    Ammo belt cased in.

Don't mind the gold cap... I forgot it gets covered up. The vents on the top needs another coat of copper.

The surplus backpack is built. I like the accidental option of having the standalone Launcher and Sword packs.

Last bit of work I did tonight was go around everything with the copper paint brush, and I got ambitious.

    9ee94275-9e42-42a0-8243-906ae38c33bb-1_all_44469.jpg

I figured with the copper rods in the main cannon itself, this would work very well too.

After a very rough start to the build, I finished Jehuty's legs today. This is most likely going to be my one and only Kotabukiya kit. The plastic is such a pain in the ass to work with.

After going absolute ham, buying hundreds worth of kits, and watching the original MSG and 08th, I took a break from Gundam for a while. I had planned to get back into builidng and watching with Zeta, and I’m actually building a version of the Zeta right now, but I’ve just come across something new(for me).

Because I was planning on watching the UC all the way through before getting into other series, I ignored Turn A. But because I listen to so much Yoko Kanna Youtube kept reccomending the ost for Turn A to my and I’m absolutely in love with it. I did some research and learned about the Correct Century. How is the fans concensus on that one?

I’ve been imagining a universe where all the series take place thousands of years apart after countless cataclysms to justify my mixed collection and I have to say that I absolute love the idea of the Correct Century, especially when the Reguild Century establishes a cyclical pattern of cataclysms and rebirths of civilization post-UC.
