I knew someone who quit the hobby all together with the Perfect Grade Zeta. ... and that was nearly 20 years ago.
    -
My best friend was in town this week for personal reasons, and we had an old fashioned hobby night. He built his Warhammer 40K Angron while I was slapping copper and dark gray paint on the Strike.

    20240310_233142.jpg

The shield needs some serious touch ups with the fine point brush to clean up the second coat of copper spillage.

The arms are about half way done at this point, next session they get finished.

I've got one to build too, and the Gundam Base edition of the Builders Parts Weapon Unit Hyper Launcher for it.

Just thinking about it, building it is like rite of passage. Like every collection needs an RX-78, a Gouf, a Zaku, and a Zeta-type, it's also fair to build a kit nobody likes just for the sake of the experience. It's like self flagellation only not as physically painful.

Getting the weapons for the HGUC Z II done:

    IMG_20240311_233209.jpg

For both the Beam Rifle and Mega Beam Rifle, I added various shades of grey paint onto them for some additional color-separation, as well as painting in the yellow trims on the Beam Rifle like the sample build pictures.

Stopped by my local Hobby Lobby today for a replacement gray gundam marker; figured I'd post what they had:
    IMG_5002.jpeg IMG_5004.jpeg
    IMG_5003.jpeg

Not too different from the usual, but I can't remember if the Xi Gundam was around before or if it's new.

The Valdosta store cycled the Penelope and Xi in and out of stock. The HGCE Impulse is one I hadn't seen there, nor the Wing Zero Custom Ver Ka. ... but they did have the RG Zeta.

    -
Touching up the back of the shield like two mistakes forward, one step back, repeat.

    20240311_234811.jpg

    It's at least coming along.

Arms are mostly done as planned, but I still have knuckles and fingers to paint.

    20240311_170914.jpg

I mostly ignored the RG Strike after it originally came out, so I completely missed the gimmick of the sliding elbow panels.

    20240311_171749.jpg

I did a dry fit first, and the panels wanted to come off in bulk.

    20240311_203815.jpg

So I took the parts back off and cemented them in place.

    20240311_203634.jpg

I should go back and do it for the bicep armor too since it wants to float off.

It's a bit tricky when you're used to bending arms while holding on to the forearm without hands to use as a lever.

    20240311_204659.jpg

The wrist plates I cemented at the joint socket. That way they're fixed in place and won't be dependent on the fists to hold them entirely.

Still thinking of doing a serpentine -inspired custom Gundam, but I'm kinda short on ideas.. I'd like to base it off of a variant of the Shenlong or Altron, but as for other bits, I have no clue - so any suggestions/ideas would be great!

The Acggy, Hygog, and Gog are also good sources for "Bender" grade chainlink style extending arms.

With the weapons assembled and painted, I'm finally done with my HGUC Z II build!

    IMG_20240312_091349.jpg

NGL, this is definitely one of the most weirdest and wacky-looking designs that I've ever worked on in recent times, and it's certainly unique - This for sure didn't look like any of the Zeta-type designs out there!

    IMG_20240312_091444.jpg

Damn, this design sure is rocking some crazy high heels....

    PBandai drops tomorrow ~

    Screenshot_20240312-201157.png

Probably gonna go for the G4 and G5. Fellas, as someone who still hasn't finished watching WfM, is that Gundnode a must-have? It does look real neat.

Also lmao at me finally deciding I want the HG G-Line and it being out of stock now. :lol

I've got a whole new airbrush coming. I've had one for the longest time, a Harbor Freight brand one, but never used it, and it's a single-action suction feed one anyway. New one is double-action gravity feed, and... the air compresser is built-in and battery charged! But also, to some minds, it may look a bit... suspect...

The cordlessness is gonna be a good help for having an outdoor airbrushing setup. Only put me out $110 and I think I'm more likely to actually use this one. Already got some plans ready for practice...

I've honestly looked at these handheld compressors for a while, but I hardly use the airbrush with a tank compressor I already have.

Hey, one of those reprints for tomorrow night looks familiar....

    20240312_234509.jpg

Not much for show tonight, I went back over the knees with some copper paint since I used more on the elbows. This makes it even.

    20240312_231033.jpg

Even the beam rifle cannot escape the paint, I added copper to the barrel and will add more gray down the rail.

    20240312_231024.jpg

I'm beginning to work my way into the Striker Packs starting with the Perfect-type Aile pack.
Keeping the paint consistent throughout the kit, I put copper on the intake vents and recessed spaces.

    20240312_132730.jpg

Fixing the paint on the back of the shield is done enough. I can mask the edges with accent to clean it up.

    20240312_163249.jpg

At least now I can assemble the face of the shield.

But I left all my stuff out on my desk and my roommate left his daughter unsupervised while he played video games today. And she likes to draw.

The Gundnode is not a high-priority get, no.

It's a mass-produced remote-operated unit similar to the GX-Bit from Gundam X (and an evolution of the Gunvolva units in WFM). They show up in the final battle of the series, and act purely as fodder.

I find it strange how that was the version they went with for a mass-retail release and not the one that was actually in the show.

It's not the only one. I'm still waiting for a reprint of the Conroy Custom ECOAS Jegan and Hyper Launcher, and the EWAC Jegan at the P.Bandai store.
    -
The minor amount of work tonight, repainting the knuckles after I finished cleaning the flashing and sprue marks from the articulated hands. The knuckles will get cleaned up while the articulated hands get painted entirely since their color doesn't match the others.

    20240313_204301.jpg

There is a third set of hands from the Sword Striker Pack I need to finish painting too.
