I picked up one of those G-Frame Zaku F2's from Target today. That's a fun little package. Just enough "building" work to make me feel like I'm doing something, with the plus of a really articulate inner frame. If it weren't for the fact that 1.) the Nu in this line doesn't have functional fin funnels (and the Hi Nu only does if you pay $80 for em) and 2.) it's pretty pricey to get the earlier waves for a reasonable price, I'd consider jumping in to this line. Really nice budget series.

I have spent all of my free time over the weekend building.

As you can see, I don’t have shelfspace for them yet. I recently had to temporarily downgrade in terms of living space, so I only have four bookcases for display.

Wait, it's getting reprinted? FUCK. I've had that on backorder for over a year on HLJ but cancelled a month ago.

I only recently fell down the rabbit hole that is Gunpla - I've always been interested in them, but mostly intimidated due to all the different best practices, grades, etc. Some of my favorite memories was building bootleg Korean Gunpla models in SK with my grandfather in the late 90's, haha. And of course like many Americans, I watched Gundam Wing on CN, though I don't think I really connected with it as much as some of my peers.

Tested's video on the new PG Unleashed RX-78-2 finally convinced me to give the hobby a try this year. I was intimidated by the PG, so I started small with High Grades instead - namely the RX-78-2 Origin, Zaku 2 Red Comet version, some Build Divers Rerise kits (and my kids loved the show!), and finally Moon Gundam. I've built some MG's now as well, but it's the Real Grade line that's really blown me away. Honestly, some of these kits have been harder for a beginner like me to build than Master Grades (though I haven't tried any of the Ver Ka kits yet).

I recently just finished the RG Nu and Hi Nu Gundam kits and I'm just so completely enamored with this hobby now. The articulation, presence and fun of the build and inner frame have more than surpassed my expectations. I also like the scale as I can easily fit all of my RG collection in my office, haha. The MG figures are in random places in my home at this point as my main display is already taken by Transformers :p

Anyone else love the Real Grade line? I know many of the early RG releases have a bad reputation due to the overuse of the pre-built MS joint, though I'm still trying to track down a MkII. I have a RG Sazabi on the way but honestly have no clue where to display him on my shelf now!

I built both fairly recently and I have to say I prefer the Sazabi by a fair margin. It simply got more too it. More features, more chonk.

The Sinanju is cool too but the sticker are a bit annoying. If you you are going to paint it then that doesnt matter of course.

So I tested this out; here are my results:

The Metallic Blue still looks great whether I'm doing it it on top of the primer directly, or over a gloss black coat.
The Metallic Red still looks really... meh. It's like it's more of a "metallic flake" than a base "metallic". It's still slightly better than on top of the primed part directly, so it'll have to do.

Im no longer a fan of the regular Mr Color Metallics. I now use the Mr Color GX Metallic and they have much better coverage, however their colors are way off. GX Metal Red comes off more as a metallic pink. So to fix this I go over it with a clear red coat and it fixes it up. Have to do the same with yellow and green.

    Cool, good to know!
This is my first dive into the regular Mr Color Metallics; what I always used to do was just a silver base-coat and use a clear red/blue/yellow/green/etc over it to get the color that I need.
I was hoping I could spare myself the double-coating effort, but it sounds like that's not really going to be possible to get the look that I want. I guess I'll go back to my previous strategy then later on.

Not every exciting, but finally some painted progress!

Only one set of colored parts done; progress is slow these days.
Base coat of Mr Color 8 Silver, with a mix of Mr Color 48 Clear Yellow + Mr Color GX 102 Deep Clear Red.
Trying out a color scheme/style; we'll see if it turns out as well in practice as it does in my head.

Hopefully will get some more done in the coming days; I'm kind of in the groove now and I don't want to lose momentum. :)

    Are these exclusive?

EDIT: Does P Bandai ship to the US, and do they charge for preorders?

    Yes, yes, and yes.

With P-Bandai, the shipping is a flat $10 so keep that in mind. Even more importantly, these things are limited supply so if you don't jump on them fast enough, they WILL be sold out under you. I think I'm still considered a war criminal in some circles because I have a Todesritter (it was up for ten minutes before selling out). However, in the extremely rare circumstance where somebody cancels an order, if you're lucky enough to be on the site at the time the pre-order then is available to anybody who can jump on it, and this is the only reason how I have the Efreet Custom.
