*Tells Chris Hansen "It's only a drawing... don't ask." I'm just going to pretend that picture doesn't exist..... the dolling up of your Mobile Doll is nice though. - This is going to be a fast build. and a reminder of why I'm excited for the RX-78 Unleashed. Perfect Grades strayed away from the Grade's original concept of "perfect mechanical models" and towards a theme of "Perfect Recreation of the central gimmick" with kits like the Unicorn. Its inner frame is so simplified plastic on polycap engineering designed to make the transformation from Normal to Destroy Mode without removing and swapping parts and improved proportions. Anyway, the work you see is simple building with some minor detail painting. I'll add more color to it when I get more of the legs built. I was looking over finished builds of the Unicorn to get more ideas for how I'm going to paint its moving panels, but I'm going repaint these areas with Lichtblau straight out of the bottle. Something about my mix didn't work right, the White I used has gray in it and that comes through too strong, I wanted more of the pale white/blue. I'll keep this recipe though, in the event of if/when I find a Sinanju Stein.
I don't think it's that bad, except for that red plastic. It badly needs to have a glossy or, better yet, metallic/chrome on it to really set off the clear green.
Doesn't help that it's the hideously outdated HG, so any paint or metallic finish would be marred by seams and nub marks.
I will admit if they come out with Banshee Perfectability (and why wouldn't they, Unicorn prints money) I might have to grab it.
If it were a cherry red (and maybe a cooler green) it would be like a Bionicle. Much more palatable. I think I just described the Ninpulse...
I laughed. I have a 1/144 g-self space pack I started work on like 6 months ago that isn’t done yet, and it’s just a core fighter and a backpack. I also get distracted real easily. in universe, it’s the special inner frame of a mobile suit designed for newtypes, introduced somewhere between the end of zz Gundam and Char’s Counterattack, that enhances newtype abilities. in this thread, it’s an inner frame that’s a pain to paint since there’s usually some kind of special effect involved.
One fun detail is most of the time, it's UV sensitive. you can make them glow under blacklight or a blue filtered LED. Mind the lights, my little LED spot lamps battery was dying but you can see the glow along the funnels and head. Psychoframe gets its origins in "Char's Counterattack" but it wasn't until "UC" that it became this crystaline form of those the glowing plates on the surface of a machine, and so the Version Ka Nu Gundam was given that ability and detail. It was scripted originally to just being "built into the Cockpit" but the signature "T" of Psychoframe was treated as this glossy piece of metal. Those are my BTF Double Fin Funnel units by the way. not official Bandai.
Reprimed the raised panels on the shields I want to paint. It was the only way to undo the uneven saturation of my previous attempt. My plans for Lichtblau remains as such, but this does look good in gray too. And you can see my attempt to paint along a creased edge. This will work. Meanwhile, I have two feet and two ankles assembled. I kept making the mistake of reading the assembly steps backwards and upside down, and having to pry the POM and Polycap gaskets out of the parts to fix the mistake got annoying. Now it's sorted and fixed forever. Painting as I go, and the noticeably missing psychoframe plates will remain off until it's unavoidable and I must use them. Now for the "fun" news. I went to order a couple more bottles of Lichtblau from Scale Hobbyist, only to find out that it has beem DISCONTINUED by Testors. Rather than buying another brand of paint , acrylic or not, for the color I wanted, I went searching online until I found a hobby supplier on Ebay that had it in stock cheap enough, so I got four bottles for about $15.
Somehow, I now understand why this got a P-Bandai release. What a dull-looking kit. Maybe the standard Daughtress will have some improvements if/when it gets a regular release.
I remember reading somewhere they intentionally redesigned the appearance of the psycho frame to have a more visible physical component instead of just a glow so it would look like something out of... Gundam 00 I think? I haven’t finished watching that one yet. no story relation, they just liked it and wanted to do something similar for unicorn.
Obviously not my build but something I found on the gunpla reddit: What's amazing here is beyond shield, gun, backpack/saber hilts, and decals, the ONLY actual alteration here is the chest vents and the block thing between them. Otherwise, it's all a stock Nobel with an extremely well done paint job that highlights how close it actually is to the RX-78-2.
Nice! For spits and giggles, I just had to take a look and see what 11 years difference in engineering based on a gimmick is like. Unicorn, built around transforming from Normal to Destroy mode with polycap and POM enforced joints, versus a mechanically articulated for realistic detail of "Real Gundam" the GP01. ..... .......... ..... Yeah... I'm crazy for thinking about doing what I'm thinking about doing. -EDIT! I decided to pull the Unicorn's base stand out of storage so I could clean it up and paint it eventually later with the same color as I did the Gp01's maintenance cage... I forgot I signed it after I finished what little assembly it needed. Wow.. nearly five years to the date. The other part of the plan is I figured it would be useful to keep everything elevated and better secured on my benchtop so I would stop nudging the cage and sending kits falling backwards. *The other reason I put the GMs aside* This was a massive IMPROVEMENT! The base from the Unicorn was designed to have spaces to stow even the Full Armor set, but I don't understand why they made four channels for standing the three shields... even so, it will help when I get back to painting the raised panels I was coloring in.
