I do both. I have a Hobbytown USA that is the center for my city's gunpla scene. Also the two Things from Another World stores sell gunpla. I also buy on various import sites and Amazon.

I prefer to buy in person or at least locally, (from Canadian Gundam) but the bulk of my purchases are still from HLJ or Mandarake. Luckily, it's becoming a lot more half and half.

I prefer brick and mortar. It's exciting to get stuff in the mail BUT nothing quite beats "the hunt" where you find awesome stuff in the wild and can immediately take it home after purchase. For local brick and mortar, there are three places I usually hit: HobbyTown USA, the local comics/gaming shop in the mall, and a mom/pop game/model shop. The first has the largest selection but is a bit out of my way, the second is closest but its stock is extremely limited (it's killing me that they don't have the goddamn Yellow Alto yet, they had the white and blue!), and the third has slightly less limited stock than the comics shop but it's always different from the comics shop and I always prefer to support small, local business when possible. Plus, the mom/pop shop has scratchbuilding supplies out the wazoo like brass rod, which the other two places don't have.

If it's something stupid expensive or specialty, ala the 1/100 METAL GEAR REX, then USAGundam is my go-to. I used to rely entirely on HLJ but after their site redesign I honestly find them difficult to use.

I've got a couple of US based stores I go to frequently, but I have a new favorite Ebay source, Jerrytck. That's who I went to for the last couple of exclusives. It all depends on what the stores offer as either with a discount, or inventory.

I'm just about done with painting the Wing's skirts, now I might be able to start assembling this kit. Mixing the right colors finally did the trick, and a few light coats makes it all even.

I took this picture before I cleaned up the sloppy edges, but they look just fine for what I wanted. Now to just give them a gloss shine to blend in.

I 99% import my kits, usually from HLJ but I'll occasionally source from other places. Most of the times its just a matter of stock, but since I get regular shipments anyway the price is more competitive than most US-based online stores. And even though I live in a major city, the last M&P hobby shop closed earlier this year. There's like one B&N and one "traditional nerd" game shop, but they got shit selection and appropriate markups. Bluefin's starting to do real good with distribution for Bandai, but there's just little incentive to go to local shops and since I've only ever known "wait for my kits to arrive from overseas" waiting doesn't bother me at all. Also, my hikki ass hates going out and if I can avoid having to drive (fuck driving and all the lunatics on the road jfc) imma just wait for the postman.

You know. Somehow I just learned how Bandai is doing Core Gundam and it's armor sets...the armor sets are coming with a re-colored Core Gundam with it's specific weapons as an optional set..

I have to give it to Bandai. As scummy as 2019 has been with all the exclusives and how they're handling Core Gundam+Armor...I have to applaud them in a way. They play a dirty fucking game and if I wasn't so goddamn invested in Gundam as a franchise I would've just picked up my ball and gone home. But throw on just the right amount of desireable MS at retail and throw in others in P-Bandai is certainly a way to keep my ass glued to the seat. I'm fully expecting a full Core Gundam + all armor set as a P-Bandai release in the future.

And now for something completely different!

Yes, the infamous Dragon Momoko is still around. Haven't had a chance to open everything up yet but I looked at the runners and compared it to the Strike version RM. While some of the details are identical, all of the runners are unique. they didn't clone bandai's parts at all. The only exception is the polycap runner which is a perfect copy of the official product. In the meantime this gives me an excuse to finally build those Striker packs I bought before the last time DM was shut down!

I've got a complete set of the DM Striker Packs from a few years ago. Never finished building them for some reason, only got about halfway through Sword. They were pretty good, but the plastic left a lot to be desired.
