Everyone is all excited about a new Mario movie and the new toys, and I’m over here just finding out that they had a toy line from the live-action Mario Bros movie

At minimum I’m gonna also have to pick up Luigi, but I might get sucked in and grab the whole line.

Cmon NECA give me an updated line of this like you did the movie Turtles!

ya, not sure how I stumbled on them, but they did Koopa, Iggy, Spike, the Goombas, and Mario & Luigi.

I have no idea how I didn’t see the toys back when they came out.

 

I hafta go find out what the "goomba" toy looks like.

ETA: Okay, I saw it.

 

And now it can’t be unseen.
They looked WAY worse in the movie.

 

If by worse you mean better, then you are right.

Plus they’re undeniably fantastic dancers.


In all seriousness, I get how the design came about. Ignore the head here, and the giant body with a long brown coat and short legs does work as a live action approximation of the game design’s shape (ie a big brown blob with two feet at the bottom. A literal interpretation of a Goomba would probably be terrifying.

Hahaha, have you seen the movie? It’s wild. Basically a cyberpunk Blade Runner-esque reinterpretation of Mario.

It’s basically that YouTube meme “what if ____ were a dark 80s fantasy film,” but actually produced.



Honestly the art direction and production values are pretty amazing for what they are. They really went all out on the puppetry and animatronics. And other than how it was done in the live action segments of the Super Mario Super Show, there’s not a lot of ways to really do a Mario movie in live action.

 

Now I get it.
