Every once in a while, Hasbro puts out a few figures that have a notable large amount of one oddly colored plastic, or strange paint, and was just wondering how far back that sort of thing goes.

Like with Prime-We got 2 completely blue characters, Magnus and Thundertron. Both had incredibly large amounts of blue plastic and clear blue plastic, like they had a surplus and wanted to get rid of some.

A less recent but better example is the Allspark Blue paint that they put on nearly every damn movie figure.

Any other cases of stuff like that happening? Just wondering.

    I doubt Hasbro does that.

I KNOW Mattel does it, but I doubt Hasbro does.

Not even with the Allspark paint?

And even if they don't do it, which releases kind of feel like it?

I imagine there was a legit reason for it, but during RotF it felt like a bunch of figures had brown plastic used when other colors would've been a better choice (Human Alliance Barricade comes to mind, so does Battle Blades Optimus) and that made me wonder if Hasbro got a great deal on brown plastic or something lol.

Honestly, seeing how FunPub puts together BotCon exclusives at the convention at their panel, each piece is molded to order with a color code. I'm almost positive they tell their factories how and what to build and they do the legwork on making it happen. It's up to the factory logisticians to order the proper amount of materials for each order, or replenish their stocks according to usage.
