At the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, after five years, The War to End All Wars ended after 37 000 000 casualties. 8 500 000 soldiers were killed, 21 000 000 soldiers were wounded, and 7 100 000 went missing or were taken prisoner. Millions of civilians were killed or wounded but I can't find figure that isn't speculative.

I've always found it difficult to collect consistent figures, so if the numbers are off I apologise. Although, it's impossible to know just how many people were killed, wounded, and displaced.

    Please, wear a poppy.

Never again, lest we forget the war to end all wars.

As a student enrolled in a Navy Junior ROTC, I agree. Sad that the last WWI veteran died last year.

Also, happy 273rd (or something) birthday to the United States Marine Corps.

My dad came home from a seven month posting in Afghanistan last year. It is essential to keep in mind that, though Remembrance day started after World War One, it includes all wars and all countries. We are not the only ones to have lost loved ones in battle. I am fortunate not to be one of those who have.

I don't particularly care for the military as a career choice, but I am not so cold as to ignore that the freedoms I have, I have because of people who serve.

To all my brothers and sisters in uniform, I salute you. Keep up the good fight until the day we can all come home.

It doesn't matter how popular or unpopular a war is - people should always support and remember our troops. They have fought and died to protect our freedoms and the freedom of others and they deserve our eternal respect.

it's always disappointing when people take their freedoms for granted and disrespect not only our country but those who fought and are fighting for them. my ROTC unit at my school is going to be marching in the veteran's day parade tomorrow.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
    We will remember them.

May we always remember those that sacrificed so much, not just in the Great wars, but in the wars since and those serving in Afghanistan

Watching the remeberence service right now, got my Poppy band, I do try to wear a Poppy but I always damage it or lose it

To those who put their life on the line every day.
To those who make the ultimate sacrifice.
To those who had to leave their love ones behind.
To those who are lost, and need to find their way home.

    Lest we forget.

Nice. Reminds me of my days in the Army Cadets, we used to march through the town on Remembrance Sunday. The last year I was there we got put next in the parade to the WW2 veterans, such an honour to march with those men.

My ancestors have been in every major American Conflict beginning with the Revolutionary War and ending with my brother serving in the Middle East and Bosnia with the exception of the Korean War that one happened between generations. So yeah, Buddy, do we remember, there's even a Cousin on the Vietnam Memorial.

It should be right hand, elbow parallel to the ground, hand tilted at 35 degrees down, finger barely touching eyebrow.

Then again, Blastoff is a giant mace, so Vortex will do.
