Is there a reason why they are produced longer than their American counterparts? I mean, the openings themselves are cool and all but sitting through 1:20 to 1:30 of just an opening just seems kinda ... I don't know, boring? It's like they don't know when to end the opening theme and just keep it going until they find a suitable place to end it. Your thoughts?
that's because they are trying to captivating to another audience. Most american cartoons use shorter intros cause they don't want to lose the audiences attention, while japanese intros are made to really get you pumped for the show, to get you energized to show you this show is going to be AWESOME! To me japanese intros are better in every way, shape, and form. Transformers Evo is proof of this (the japanese opening to animated that made almost the ENTIRE fandom's jaw drop to the floor in amazement, even Derrick J Wyatt!) i never get bored with japanese intros, while shows like animated (the american opening) and prime, while having good intros, just don't get my energized for the show like a good ole japanese intro will
Honestly, I tend to like really short openings for the main sake of them being different from the norm, and because there's moar time for the actual show. For example, if anyone remembers the show Defying Gravity, you might remember the intros being hella short. However at the same time, I also don't mind longer ones, as long as they don't blatantly give away plot lines that aren't supposed to be known yet. the 1st season of Beast Wars was really good with this because they were able to use footage from the final episodes that wasn't seen until then, but without giving anything away in the process. Also, I love Laura Harris.
Personally i am a big fan of the japanese openings except for beast wars metals and beast wars season 1. I always play a japanese opening before i watch an episode on youtube and often play with another one in background (eg i mute the one with the video i want and play the background one after fixing the times so they match)
yeah just about every anime has a soundtrack that gets sold in stores. love the anime OPs, save for masterforce. both of those were fail. my favorite in Burning Overdrive. the OP for RiD though slightly on and off topic, the outro for victory, Cybertron Banzai. never. gets. old.
