Seriously. It was in my first free issue of EGM. http://www.joystiq.com/2008/03/01/april-issue-of-egm-reveals-bungies-next-project-lego-halo/
April issue... you got pawned edit: hehehe, it even says it in the article. It's ok, EGM hasn't gotten me since the Simon Belmont in TMNT code back in the days.
Haha, you ALWAYS have to be careful of anything you read in EGM in the April issue. I've known that since middle school, with the before mentioned Sheng Long rumor. Ah, the good old days.
Hours... that's how long we tried to get Simon in Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles. No internet to confirm the Fools we were, so we just thought it was a typo and were trying every combination.
I tried out every damn "how to get Luigi" rumor for Mario 64. Just about the only one I didn't finish was "get 120 stars without saving." I wish I knew beforehand that there was no way to get Luigi... And the Multiple Bond cheat? Man, those screenshots looked so real!
The Shen Long rumor is real! Honest! I personally know W.A. Stokens from Fooldigen, HA and he gets to Shen Long every time. (When he plays Bloody Roar...)
I really hate April Fool's Day. It's just so freaking stupid. You'll see a ton of stories like this, and barely any of them will be even remotely amusing. Whatever.
Well, this is the amusing part, seeing everyone (including legit online publications) take it for gospel and republish it around the internets.
EGM's first April Fools Day joke. It was a fake article that said you could unlock the hidden character, Sheng Long, in the original Street Fighter 2. Everyone thought it had to be true because RYU always said "You must defeat Sheng Long to stand a chance!" When in actuality, he was talking about his Dragon Punch. Many gamers spent WEEKS trying to unlock it. This was back in the early 90's before the internets.
Ah okay. I never got into the whole Street Fighter thing. I was always turned off by the fighting games (mostly because I sucked at them) Thanks for the heads up.
I think what does it is the fact that the issue comes out in March, and not April. Even if you know they do it each year, you don't really think about it at the beginning of March.
From Wikipedia: So you can see how pissed people were when they would get hit once after playing a perfect game all the way to M. Bison.
