Legion Drill Vehicon Being one of those people who could never afford to army build Deluxe class toys, I had to resort to the cheaper Legion toy. Still, that only gave me a set of cars. Without an officially released Drill variant, I figured I'd make one, using the Zirca Upgrade Kit on Shapeways. Drill Vehicon here was painted with Games Workshop paints. I brought out the final jar of Liche Purple and Codex Gray for him. Picked out the details on the treads and painted the windows with Abbadon Black. Here are some comparison shots with my stock Legion Vehicon. Yes, I'm so cheap my "army" consists of two units. Of course, Drill Vehicon still transforms. I opted to keep his drill on his vehicle mode's hood. The drill really changes the silhouette this way, so he's easy to tell apart from his sports car cousin. (Yeah, I kept the legs in their usual plastic gray. I quite like the shade, actually.) And the obligatory group shots. Thanks for looking, and as always, comments and criticisms are welcome and somewhat appreciated. Disclaimer: This post does not contain any notions of shameless self-promotion.
The alt mode looks pretty good, but I'm not sold on the bot mode. The added parts look more like accessories than part of the design. If the treads split where one half was on the arm and the other was on the leg, it'd eliminate the lanky arm appearance it has now. Also, if the drill wasn't as obtrusive it'd make a world of difference. Personally, I'd like to see the drill split and mounted on the shoulders as like the cgi has it. Maybe have the front half of the drill be detachable and able to split, then with mounting posts, attach the halves to the shoulders, maybe on one of the tread 'wheels'. To go full bore, why not a replacement head?
Legion, not Deluxe. Thanks! Thanks for the input yaujta and RoadRage. The Zirca kit I used was created with the idea of requiring no modification to the existing toy. As such, splitting the treads was ruled out as it would have to be glued to the Legion Vehicon (whereas now, it uses the 3mm ports). The drill also detaches to be a handheld weapon, if you don't like the silhouette. A replacement head, again, would break the no-modifications rule.
Abso-friggin-lutley love this one dude! Will have to get a set or 2 of these to help distinguish from the masses (currently 5!)
I'd imagine the treads could be split and mounted with some kind of clip around the wheel or into the wheel well to cover the wheel. No real modification would be needed. Same with the drill part. If it were split, it could be attached to the one section of the treads, making the kit all-inclusive. These were just ideas I had when I was planning the same system, only with styrene. Sorry for the nit-picking. I should have posted in your WIP thread.
Currently 2 on my end... I'm always on the hunt for more! The rear sections of the treads I have checked. I designed them as separate pieces at first, but when I measured the vehicle, fitting a clip into the wheel well would have clogged the wheel. It wouldn't roll. Even though the treads are one piece, at least the wheels roll! Anyways, I appreciate the feedback bro. Keep it coming, and if I ever get around to a Jet Vehicon kit I'd love to have your input (and everyone else's!).
I love that purple : D Not sure I like the legs left unpainted, but other than that this looks really cool.
It is a good purple isn't it? Too bad Games Workshop have a new line so Liche Purple is gone for good. They have a conversion chart and I remember there was a conversion entry for Liche, so I'm hoping the difference won't be huge. Liche looks too good. I'll get to it someday. Got a long holiday, so I'll get a CV Jet Vehicon upgrade kit out. Gonna have wings, blaster and maybe a few other things.
