As a lover of spiders, I was elated when Skrapnel was unveiled in the Transformers Earth Wars mobile game. However, he hasn't gotten a figure that fits in my collection yet, so here we are. I'm designing him to go with New Age's awesome Insecticons (yes, spiders are arachnids not insects), which look like they came straight off of the Sunbow model sheets. This presents a fun, dual-challenge of redesigning a character to fit a different aesthetic style, as well as creating it to scale with existing products. This will be the most complex design I've done yet, but thankfully New Age's figures are so well designed and made that they serve as a great blueprint to follow. I'm about a week into the design, with his robot arm finished, and alt mode roughed out. I'll post updates here as it progresses.
Thanks! Though Hasbro has released Shrapnel figures with the name Skrapnel for copyright purposes, Skrapnel is a separate character with a similar, but different design to Shrapnel.
I'm aware of the copyright/name thing. But you're saying there's a continuity where Shrapnel and a completely different character named Skrapnel could meet up and have a conversation with each other? I can't find anything that confirms this or that he was a spider.
The silver things are antennae. Spiders do not have antennae. Skrapnel - Transformers: Earth Wars Edit: I just looked at footage from the game and he doesn't use the antennae/mandibles to walk either. He's a beetle. Your design is awesome regardless.
I half-paid attention to the video because I thought it was an ad before the actual video you meant us to see, and then when it ended and no actual video started i was like "huh what?" and had to watch it again. Sometimes the ad IS the video. Woops! BTW, subscribed!
hope im not intruding, the following might help, insecticons start at 15 min mark and skrapnel is at the 16min, should contain the Devastation, Earth Wars FoC (or Wfc?) designs and Forged to Fight; if they implemented the character (not skrapnel so far).
I spent the week working out the torso and chest. I'm looking forward to moving onto the head and face next.
@NOCV, you never fail to impress, sir. This is looking fantastic. Is the emblem in the render just for decoration, or will it be printed into the figure?
Hey, thanks! The emblem in the render is just a placeholder for a Toyhax sticker. I like to plan for which kind of sticker will fit where.
After nearly a month I was able to get some time in on this spider-babe tonight. Still very much a work in progress, but on the downhill now. Currently she's 6.9 cm to the top of her head, versus Shrapnel's 6cm, and Kickback and Bombshell's 6.2 cm. I think I'll be able to bring her down to around 6.5ish, but I still have to work out how to handle the head.
