Yeah, that's the one! I cut the tab off after testing the other connections to make sure there'd be enough to hold it solid. Seems to be working fine! I'll take some pictures later. It's not perfect but I'm really happy with how the putty and paint turned out.

Gears has never been a character that resonated with me in toy or cartoon form. But, when I saw the Legacy figure at Target, I immediately picked it off the peg. The bright colors of the matte plastic were very much like the legends/core scale 3rd party figures that I love, and he has one of the best looking weapons I've seen in the line. And that head. That HEAD. Into the cart & out the door. Well, with a stop at the register to pay for it, of course.

Once out of the package, I was even more impressed. Gears features pretty much everything I like about Transformers:
    - Lots of articulation. Double-jointed knees & elbows, along with all the swivels & rockers that the line has come to fully embrace.
    - Super easy and intuitive transformation. Everything moves easily and connects solidly, nothing unnecessarily complicated (and I'm someone who was actually really impressed with Wheeljack's folding-upon-folding-upon-folding transformation.)
    - SOLID construction. Connections & joints STAY where you put them, and the figure is easily balanced in poses.
    - Most parts are molded in color in either a semi-gloss or matte plastic with very few parts needing to be painted (though the bumper really should've been it's own separate red piece.)
    - NO STUPID CLEAR WINDOWS that usually require molding the entire part in clear plastic, then painting the majority of that part with paint that doesn't match the adjoining colored plastic. Besides, there's never anything inside worth seeing, I don't know why some fans seem to love looking at folded up limbs inside a vehicle's cab.

On the minus column, I don't know why Hasbro used two types of red and two types of blue plastics. The matte red of the torso and the matte blue of the shoulders & legs looks so much better than the semi-gloss plastics used on the chest plate, head, and backpack. It's actually distracting when you look at the matte shoulders, then the semi-gloss elbows, then the matte forearms. Is it some kind of finishing process on the assembly line? Is one type of plastic stronger than the other for certain joint connections? Whatever the case, Gears looks awesome but would've looked PHENOMENAL with all-matte plastic.

All things considered, Gears is easily the best Legacy figure I've come across. Figure of the line.

Gears really is such a fun little grumpus! I was gonna skip him, but my Walmart finally got in a wave that's not half a year old and I couldn't resist.
I love his robot mode and that big goofy head. The transformation is fun too! Just...I still don't like the alt mode. The Topkick Jr styling really rubs me the wrong way. It helped a bit to paint the windows black, and I'm not gonna let it bring down my enjoyment of the rest of the lil guy.
I also got Chromia. I understand Cyberverse fans' disappointment with her, but man I love those colors and her headsculpt. Just wish she came with an extra weapon. Her ninja stars are floppy and open up when her wheels roll.

C&C, Autobot Enforcers of the Peace.
Chromia and her partner Checkpoint. They're a bit too "enthusiastic" about doing their job, but at least they don't tolerate bribes.
    (pardon the makeshift backdrop)

The ninja stars click into place if you turn them far enough, but I too would want a different weapon for her. I said this in a different thread, but I think she looks like a fantastic IDW Chromia (depending on artist, of course).

Also, is Silverstreak's navy blue actually that similar to Chase's? That's a really good look.

It is pretty close! The ball socket is slightly too small, so the fit is pretty tight (no putting Chase's head on Streak's body :( ). I really like how it looks.

Here we go! Used some Tamiya epoxy putty to fill in the neck gaps on Skysaurus and Seasaurus. If you decide to try this, remember that ol' birdbrain's neck is supposed to plug onto a peg in Magmatron's chest. I didn't remember until it was too late, so I hacked off the peg.

My phone kinda makes the pics grainy when I resize them, so it's hard to see that the pin holes in the joints are also filled.

The color match on Sea gave me a little trouble, but I'm still happy with the results. I would've just given him a lighter "underbelly", but it's important to me that the joints have the same color all around.

Looks good! I'm impressed most of all with you filling in those spherical joints. I can actually just make out the circular area where the rivet would be, but it makes appreciating your work matching the surrounding skin all the better.

I plan on taking more but this is just the first round of pics using igear's Computer Control Center. I haven't taken pictures with this thing since before WfC came out and replaced most of my Generations collection with Subnow styled figures and I love it.

An observation (a cool one) about Legacy United Quake.

The original Quake turned into a German Leopard 2 tank. Given the timing (1988), it was Leopard 2A4, the 4th upgrade of Leopard 2 since 1979.
    52578257945_2e4caca5f9_b.jpg G1-toy_Quake.jpg

Leopard 2 has seen many upgrades since then, and is currently on the A7+ version (with A8 on the way). However starting with the Leopard 2A5 (1995), improved armor was added to the front, which gave the Leopard it's now well known iconic, angled, low profile turret.

    Leopard-2-A5-KMW-003.jpg AY-AV13_01_lrg.jpg

    Look familiar?

    800px-TF-Legacy-Quake.jpg

While the chassis is very high for engineering reasons, the new gray top piece is actually a surprisingly detailed turret of Leopard 2A5 or later (likely 2A7). Quake is retaining the exact same alt mode, just in its more modern version. It's not just a generic tank. Its specifically a Leopard 2 once again. It even has the Leopard 2's high angled rear side skirt, with the same panels. No other tank has it quite that design.

This is the second time Hasbro has done this. The original Blitzwing transformed into a Japanese Type 74 Tank which had a typical look of a tank from the 1950s to the early-mid 80s (no skirt, rounded high profile turret). However as Blitzwing was produced, late Cold War tanks shifted to low profile angled turrets, pioneered in the M1 Abrams and then in the Leopard 2 (boxy angled first, then with front, flat angles in the A5). Point is, is that G1 Blitzwing looked like what kids would think a "tank" looked like in 1985.

Fast forward to 2022, and Legacy Blitzwing has a lower profile (but still tall) turret, which is angled, and a side skirt for the road wheels. It's not a specific tank but has the features that people would associate with a modern tank, because it would have been weird to just do a Type 74 again. Blitzwing, like Quake, does a modern spin on their historic alt mode so it "looks the part" in the modern context.

Basically, someone at Hasbro plays War Thunder.

I rarely gush about a toy that isn't out yet, especially when it's a rehash of G1 Optimus, but here I am doing just that.

I'm sure that development on Missing Link Convoy helped with the design process for the upcoming deluxe G1 Optimus, but Shuhei Umeza (edit: Koki Yamada) and Mark Maher really knocked it out of the park, adding touches like light piping, the forwardmost fender bits folding back into the forearms, plus accessory compatibility with 5mm smokestack connections and, of course, trailer usage.

While it isn't a complete package like C-01, or a premium experience like either Missing Link Convoy, I think I'll still enjoy the playability potential this new deluxe figure can offer.

I wonder if it'd be feasable to swap out Metalhawk's silver parts with the prone-to-yellowing parts of Cyclonus.
