A little late to the party, but grabbed Cybertron Starscream over the weekend.

Isn't he a fantastic little bugger?!

I bought the original Supreme figure waaay back when the actual Cybertron toyline was on the shelves, and as impressive as that Screamer was, he couldn't exactly pull off many impressive poses. This guy though, he's got dynamism in spades.

Probably one of the best Voyagers released in the last few years....and with the quality of modern Voyagers, that says a lot!

So I always liked the original Magmatron figure for being a wacky sod.

But the Commander class.....he's a beast!

    Fixed it. :p

I've never been fussed about Big Convoy, but he's teased on Magmatron's box, so it won't be long. Sign me up for the blood-soaked tusk Nemesis Prime repaint though!!

    YouTube (Custom URL):
I just got Starscream and I'm having so much enjoyment messing with him. But just like my other current Voyagers, I always gotta pair him up with either a Micromaster pair or a Modulator-type figure. I had one I hadn't put together properly with anyone prior, Brunt, and my goodness, he works so freaking well with him in both robot and vehicle modes.
    IMG_20240521_213726425.jpg
    IMG_20240521_212058462.jpg

The other combinations I have are:
Override & Hot Rod Patrol (Earthrise) (Basically her pit crew)
Ultra Magnus, Slammer, & Sixgun (City Commander formation)
Trashmaster & Ironworks (Junkasaurus Jr. Seriously, those two can make for a solid Junkasaurus)
RID 2000 Scourge & Airwave (Airwave combines to turn Scourge's trailer into a Jetwing Optimus setup)

Brunt used to be for Galvatron but that was only due to color. These two can fit together way better. A real "Bot Bender Orinj" combination there.
(Note: If you do the vehicle combination only put ONE of Brunt's leg connectors into Starscream's fin ports, they're just barely too wide to let you put in both)

So being the unashamed Chromia fan that I am, I ended up buying this, despite my unrelenting disappointment this wasn't actually a new mold to represent her Cyberverse design.

    2024-05-24 12.15.02.jpg

Thing is, as much as I love this headsculpt (probably can't fit it on the T30 figure), I just don't like this body for Chromia. Maybe if I can get accurate measurements for the balljoint in Maya I can sculpt a new head and turn it into an OC. It's not a bad mold, it's just not a good Chromia I feel.

    And I finally have it.

I have been waiting for this for a long time and I don't know why Amazon took so long to get it but hey, better late than never.

Sure you have read this before but Magmatron's beast modes are extremely solid, more solid than any other beast mode before and I'm sure that the fact that they don't have bot modes individually helps but still, they are very dense figures and pretty posable to boot, you wouldn't expect them to get as much articulation as they have but they have a lot of joints to pose.

I didn't bother with the Magmasaurus mode but is cool that it has it.

But of course the highlight is the proper Magmatron mode and is a joy to watch and play with.

Transformation is extremely involved, much more than in the original toy. In fact basically has to reinvent the wheel about how it worked because there are many creative transformation steps (particularly the ones involving the Giganotosaurus) to achieve the robot form. At points it seems like a bit too much but is genuinely entertaining to do so once that you figure it out.

Is surprising how everything connects so well and how well-built is, you could almost believe that this is a figure that actually doesn't separate into 3 different dinosaurs because of the solid feel of the main figure, absolutely nothing gets out of place when you play with it and this is almost a miracle compared to the original which you just needed to move to make it come apart. Speaking of the original, there's a great attention to detail in the new one considering that there are few robot parts that didn't even need to be included (like the robotic parts in the legs) but they did to be similar to the original in which they actually had a purpose for transformation. Is just really well-done.

And here it is with Encore Big Convoy. Yes, we need a new Big Convoy immediately, the original has great articulation even for today's standards but the stability and the kibble is not the best and gets in the way constantly. A new one can get stuff more elegantly and be more similar to the appearance in the show.

Overall, I frankly believe that Magmatron is easily the best Commander Class so far. A lot of people think that Armada Optimus is the best but honestly, I think he's a bit overrated, a good figure for sure but is basically the original toy and just saying: "Let's add actual legs this time for both robot modes!", Magmatron not only adds articulation that wasn't present in the original toy but also basically has to recreate everything from the ground up and becomes so much better because of it, the transformation is so well-engineered that actually impresses me and the final result is simply one of the most solid combined modes that I have seen recently.

So yeah, Magmatron is a new favorite of mine and I can't wait to see what Commander Class does next besides Optimus (Hoping for Beast Wars II Galvatron now).
