If they somehow make this, it may be my first time buying an upgrade kit.

While I don't see DNA coming out with a full trailer set (have they done anything quite so big/ambitious before?), I'd love to see their take on a Wingblade upgrade kit. I know Matrix Workshop has one in the works, but I think their stuff is 3D printed so might not quite have the same polish to it.

I guess it's my turn to express my feelings for this figure, as I got him today.
    IMG_20240407_142757.jpg
He turned out just as expected. From the waist up he's pretty great, but the legs look like crap. Playskool-ish, short thanks to the kneecaps, not proportional to the rest of him. In the other hand the chest doesn't bother me as much as it did on pictures, but I can see third parties doing a complete new chest piece that folds over the black bits below the windows.

The transformation feels like meeting again with an old friend, very fun stuff and a refinement of what came before.
    IMG_20240407_164405.jpg
    And the obligatory group shot.
    IMG_20240407_194522.jpg
Overall? Not mind-blowing, but a solid toy. I have issues in regards of the approach they took when doing him. Personally I'm not a fan of the height, and the proportions of the body do not feel CHUG enough when compared to the other 2 Animated Universe figures. And the legs while admitely transform in a cool way, I do not like the details they have and how the kneecaps make the tiny thighs feel even tinier.

An easy 6.5/10 as a CHUG figure. But as a toy as God intended? 8/10. Very fun stuff.

Ah, then this figure really does bring the nostalgia, because I haven't heard that zinger probably since TFA first came out. :lol

You know what's even funnier? I grew up with Animated, the toys were my jam when I was 8 and I always (And I still do) loved the aesthetic. The thing with the legs on this Prime (and overall the plastic of the toy as a whole, but it's more notoroious on the blues) is that it feels way too shiny, and combined with the weird chunky knees and flat feet gives this "preschooler toy" feel to me. What a weird way to describe a literal toy but I did it anyways
No joke, the legs on this reminds me a ton of how Rescue Roy looked. A toy that funnily enough I own and was my first TF. Well that ain't a Playskool toy, but a Tonka toy.

Yeah, that's something the Legacy TFA toys forgot: a lot of the OG TFA figures weren't shiny plastic, but had a matte texture to them. This reflected the matte colouration of the characters in the show, and the only toys that were shiny or metallic were drawn that way in the animation. (like Sentinel Prime, or the red on Megatron)

Except even Rescue Roy had painted hubcaps. :(

Solid toy. Only complaints i have are the super loose knee joints. Ive tried kiki and didn't seem to work. Anyone else got a better solution?

I don't really feel everyone's complaints about the legs. It feels more accurate to his animation model than his toy, sure I'll give you that, but they don't feel out of place. Lacking paint maybe, they should have put some yellow on the tops of his feet (like what @Wh1tebase did) and some black on the bottom, but That's about it.

I don't even mind how his legs transform into truck mode, if anything it gives a solid two-point connection for a potential wing-blade/fire engine hookup (neither of which needed to turn like a semi-truck as they weren't actual trailers).

Looks wise I personally don't like them because of the proportions. I'd wish that the thighs were longer and the shins smaller. The length of the thighs probably have something to do with the dimensions of the transformation and how stuff accommodates though.

So this guy finally released here in Japan today and I finally got to pick him up, I was originally really excited... but it seems that nearly 100% of the Primes shipped to Japan have their hip joints assembled upside down???

They were stiff as hell and could barely hold a pose out to the sides so I looked into it, and it seems that the angled line/notch should be at the bottom, but on almost all the Japanese copies the notch is on the top, and the pole is on the bottom...

Is this something common on the US releases as well?? I waited until now since with the current JPY/USD exchange rate, it costs me the equivalent of like $80 to get an "early" international copy, but I may have to get one if these are in fact all duds.

I checked through 20+ copies at the store today, and it's hard to see the hip joints from the box since the cardboard design covers the crotch pretty well, but I think the copies I saw were all backwards....

I'll be honest, while I liked the figure, I felt i really didn't need another Optimus, and it was an impulse buy.

Thus, Thunderclash came into existence. No physical modification required, just paint. Someone with more skill than me could make this a whole lot better. 1000006898.jpg

For those who want to grab the Takara version, please check this out.
It seems to happen with the whole batch. I got 2 animated prime from different stores in Japan and both of them are having the same issue.

I believed that they assembled the blue pieces at the hip upside down.
