I can see people just don't understand this set. At all.

It's a nostalgia set, lost on so many who were not around for G1 in Japan. The Japanese S.T.A.R.S. base is differnet than the Hasbro one and highly desired by many fans who collect Japanese releases. The Convoy trophy, while dumb to most, is a tug at the hearts of any Japanese fan who had hoped to win one in a contest as a kid. They can buy one in this promotion for a fraction of what the original now costs. The Scramble Comic included is great, and a vintage copy sold for about $80 last week just by itself. It's a really fucking solid set. And the price is fair.

It's too bad Optimus doesn't detach from the pedestal. That's a dealbreaker for me. I wonder if they were required to make him attached because he couldn't be considered a "toy". Similar to how G1 keychain company Fun4All was able to obtain the license because they were considered keychains and not "toys".

    This.

But it's not even available here (in the States) anyway. I'm more pissed off at Hasbro for never doing these campaigns. The most we get in the USA is what? Licensed tooth brushes and crappy towels? :rolleyes2

There was a time when Hasbro seemed to try more with marketing.

This. It's a JAPAN-ONLY promotion that DOESN'T CATER TO YOUR TYPICAL WESTERN TRANSFORMERS COLLECTORS.

Sorry, but to me that is some BS. Nostalgia or no nostalgia, asking over $200 for what is essentially a redeco of a toy released approximately one million times glued to a piece of wood/plastic, a fold out cardboard box and a short book is not a fair price by any stretch of the imagination and using after market prices for vintage items to justify price gouging isn’t a great thing to do.

Comparatively, LG-EX Grand Maximus was only 3,000Y more for something far, far more significant. Even if you go for the lower pay grade you’re spending about the same as a web-exclusive Unite Warriors box set. That’s freaking ridiculous.

Oh please. Takara could release a scrap of plastic for 10,000Y and you’d either say it was amazing or claim it’s a conspiracy by Hasbro.

Ok this is really stupid and expensive to boot. Especially the trophy stuck to the stand. I remember the STARS promotion (in USA) and never gave a crap about it. Instead of some inspector gadget type s**t they should have made a cardboard Teletran-1 for the promotion back in the 80's that scales with the figures. That would have been so much cooler.

If interested, I can place an order on your behalf. I live in Japan. PM me for details!

Also, I looked into this promotion and I'd like to throw out a thing that makes this crowd funding project a little more interesting :

For those who order the Matrix set (limited to 500pc), they will have their name included in the booklet.
In a way it'll be your own personalized item!

The price tag is a little high but that's how most rare items from Japan are ;)

Usual days of tfw: people complaining about stuff that's not made for them the first place.

$300? thats a hard hell no.

I can appreciate the set for what it is and that its mainly targeted at a Japanese audience. I never had the S.T.A.R.S. set when i was a kid so i have no nostalgia for it but even if i did i cannot justify the price. I am glad it is there for those who want it and have the budget for it but it is not for me.

I suspect it more a case of limited stock but time will tell if there stock of these limited or not exceeds demand at that price.

Even though I would love to have this in my collection, it's a really big hard no for me. Have to much going on to try to shoehorn it's cost into my budget. It's really cool though.

My Japanese TF friends are not interested in this.  Too much money and too little content.  That\'s probably why it is being crowd-funded, as the company isn\'t confident the Japanese TF fandom is as interested in this as other products.

I wonder if some of the thus far unfound character models of G1 characters (such as the finalised Rodimus Prime) will show up in this book?
