I had very low expectations of this one. I was really interested in a bigger dragon transformer, as the old TFP Predaking is a sentimental fav..

This one is killer. Like no shit, waaaaaaay cooler than I thought it was going to be. Dragon mode is really cool, but bot mode looks like a demon from hell, like a boss in a doom game.

Very cool. I love Trex megstron..but I think this one is better.

I feel like this one definitely has more personality than Trex Megs...

Anyone else have a really tight ball joint on the last neck segment where it meets the robot bicep?

I also noticed that the outside of the bicep itself is splitting a little bit from neck movement. Anyone seen this as well?

I've seen both of the above on two copies of this figure. I'll post pics later of what I'm talking about.

Worried about the bicep completely splitting and also the ball joint shearing completely off.

Just got it and my 3 biggest critiques before are still my biggest with it in hand.

    1. The face is still atrocious, like really bad, nothing like the animation models.

    2. The neck cover in Dragon mode does a very poor job at covering the gap (his robot mode hand is super noticeable.)

    3. The back kibble with the dragon mode chest is also very noticeable and does not tab in on my copy.

I have over 100 figures and I've never felt the need to get an upgrade kit till now, thankfully the forthcoming DNA kit solves 2/3 of these issues (really wish they figured out a way to cover the neck gap).

Picture illustrating the issue described in my quoted post. The the bicep splits when the neck segments are rotated. The ball joint attached to the uppermost neck segment (directly attached to the bicep) is really tight as well.

I'm extremely disappointed to write this. Don't get me wrong, this is a very good Transformer. But, it doesn't even come close to living up to the hype that I've seen here in this thread and in video reviews.

It loses a ton of points with me because the dragon neck articulation isn't what I expected it to be. With all of the ball joints within the neck and mushroom peg at the top, I thought the movement would be phenomenal.

The movement of the neck isn't smooth at all because there's too much hindering it. It's tight and awkward. It feels like it's fighting itself and isn't fun to move around.

The ball joints are way tighter than they should be. The shape of the neck segments themselves cause them to bump into and rub against alot of different areas which blocks movement. The gold scale plates in the neck hinder movement alot too because they bump into the segment behind each one.

I know the gold scale plates can be very easily popped out which helps movement and articulation immensely. But then the neck looks so unfinished without them.

Movement of the tail is smooth and easy. It feels seamless. That's what the neck should've been. But unfortunately it isn't.

    You know..I agree with that.

That's the only gripe I have with this one. The point at wilhich the neck/arm connects to the body is not the greatest..and the neck articulation is a bit limited for what you think you should be able to do.

If they somehow just recessed the arm more Into the torso, it would not look like a dragon neck sitting on a turret mount.

Other than the head to body connection..and limited neck articulation I'm totally cool with this one.

I really think I'm going to do a black wash on some spots, and do a metallic red tint mixed in some future and top coat the red parts.

I'm going to amend my previous feedback.

I sanded down the last ball joint which connects the bicep to the last neck segment. I'm a little nervous about the fact that I sanded on gold plastic. Is GPS even a thing anymore?

Anyway, now that the neck is a ton easier to maneuver, my enjoyment of this figure skyrocketed and it's absolutely worthy of the hype it has received. Along with Legacy Predacon Inferno, they form two of the top three figures of 2022 IMO.

I was heckin' lookin' forward to this one, but last year I had to choose between TM2 Megs and the Shattered Glass Flamewar figure. I OBVIOUSLY CHOSE WRONG LIKE AN IDIOT, but a few days ago I corrected that mistake.

    PXL_20230129_223018655.jpg

    Good

    • This thing looks wicked. Kudos to the OG toy and cartoon designers, with a big ol' hug to the guys who sculpted the figure. There are oodles of detail, just like the Legacy Beast Wars Megs figure. It has crazy good shelf presence, and is the perfect example of how he's worth his price almost on looks alone.

    PXL_20230129_232402185.jpg
    • The quality is very high, in that there are many screwed joints, some mushroom pegs, and a few pinned ones. Everything on my copy feels very tight, the painted parts are done well, and the translucent wings don't feel as fragile as the wings on the original toy.
    • That's it for the good section. I mean, I could say articulation is good, besides two major areas, and that he even comes with a blast effect. But, while I appreciate an extra goodie on a figure this detailed and cared about, the fire effect doesn't look great LOL Like, go look at those press photos where Megs is wielding it like a club, like, could you blame any photographer for thinking that's how its meant to be used it? Anyway, it's fine and I'm still glad to have more to add to my effects arsenal.
    PXL_20230129_232153351.jpg

    Bad

    • He needs more paint. The paint is good where it has it but he just needs more of it. I get if they splurged a bit on metallic purples and reds here and there, it woulda' pushed him to a Commander class price point. But I woulda' been happy to pay that price. Remember how kickass Hot Rod was since he was a Deluxe sized fig at a Voyager price?
    • Lastly, and this is a big one, the neck articulation is pathetically bad. Just... I mean, c'mon. Others brought this up and I don't have much else to add other than I would do UNSAVORY things for someone who could replace most of the dragon's neck with better articulated joints. This figure is begging for it, and for the designers to miss that is low-key pathetic. His neck does a gentle curve as is, and if you remove the neck plates on the bottom, he does a bigger curve and that's about it. Same true for the stiff tail, and the swivel only neck joint. It doesn't spoil the fig for me, but it is noticeably disappointing IMO.
    PXL_20230129_231907068.PORTRAIT~2.jpg

    Conclusion

I think anyone that likes cool lookin' dragons would appreciate this figure at retail. If you're a Professor Persnickety with the Best Factual Opinions of All Time, you know who you are, the gaps, poor neck articulation, and how the robot mode fist is visible in beast more would do your head in.

Which is fine, we all have our own tastes, even if we don't have a doctorate's degree in persnicketiness.

For me, Beast Wars was my first Transformers show and having an update on a very cool lookin' character really makes me happy. Even my partner who unenthusiastically supports my collecting, remarked that TM2 has the detail of an expensive Anime Man statue but costs way less and is two toys in one. So there ya' go, he's great.

    PXL_20230129_231935967~2.jpg

(EDIT) I forgot to say, the face sculpt is bunk. I don't wanna hear how accurate it is to original toys and whatnot, I understand all that and how it was a creative choice and not a mistake like Studio Series Kup's chin; TM2 Meg's face sculpt looks bad and woulda' benefited from a show-accurate face instead. But it's a footnote because this toy seriously rules.

I wasn't interested in this one initially, as I'm not super keen on most of the Transmetal designs. But having gotten a copy in hand this week, I'm really glad I changed my mind. Megatron is a lot of fun to mess around with, and the dragon mode is killer. My only gripe with it really is the tail being a lot shorter than I realised, so I might invest in some extender pieces. But it's a small complaint and not one I'm in a rush to correct

Mine also had an assembly error in the right shoulder out of the box that prevented the arm from sitting flush against the body for transformation. Not sure if it's a common occurence, but it was an easy fix since the shoulder assembly is only held together by a single screw

I've had my Legacy Megatron sitting in a pile since December and I finally had a chance to open it this week. It was probably my most anticipated figure of 2022- I love Dragon transformers. TM2 Megatron and Terrorsaur are my favorite and the only 2 BW figures I decided to nab out of appreciation for the characters/design.

Unfortunately, I also have some issues. It's like the joints are nice, but the tabs, pegs, etc just want to be difficult. After some sweet talking, I made it work to where mostly everything stays in securely (except that golden neck piece which wants to pop out of line if I even look at the figure funny)

    20230204142041~2.JPG

I'm still really enjoying the figure and it's simple, easy transformation, and I can't wait to get the DNA upgrade kit to hopefully take it to the next level. Despite it's flaws, it's a welcomed addition.
