This is one of the best reviews I've read on here in ages. Thanks for the effort.

I must commend Hasbro for clearly taking notes from MMC- about time they borrowed from a third party considering it's their own IP, and given how 3P is consistently making better Transformers these days. I have both read the comics and own Kultur, and I have to say, this might be the best-looking non-MP they've come out with in a couple years when it comes to articulation, lack of hollow parts, and ditching annoying quirks like the first hands or non-existent wrists. Kultur's popularity shows- they felt compelled to give him a hinged hand joint, something we haven't seen in a long while, not even on other figures at this pricepoint or higher. This guy is going to be a must for me, not only because it's a cheaper way to do a Shattered Glass version, but because it's a chance to support some of Hasbro's better decisions. Gimme dat good quality, Hasbro.

Especially if you're going to charge me almost twice the price for noticeably cheaper plastic and sloppier, minimal paint. We'll exclude Tarn from that analysis though- he's looking killer.

He says, directly following a post of him standing next to Jhiaxus...

He says, several years after the release of MMC's Kultur.

Jhiaxus wasn't the focus of this topic, good individual. There's no need for me to point out what the photo displays.

It's okay to just say "oops, I was incorrect"

I was not incorrect, and the previous snark was unnecessary- why would I be commenting on Jhiaxus in a topic about Tarn?

Past figures at this size have been largely reduced to fist hands for some time now. Jhiaxus is a brand new release that just came out- people are getting Tarn at the same time. I neither excluded, nor focused on him because it's not 'Legacy Evo Tarn and Jhiaxus'. Please at least read the comments before whacking at people.

Honestly even an open-molded hand would have been an upgrade; these were two steps above what I would have expected. And yay for Jhiaxus having it too.

It's also okay to let comments be comments, and not veer too far off topic. But, whatever floats your boat I suppose.

Getting back on track, while the 'Evo' gimmick is just new name, old feature, I do love the amount of ports on this lad. While the double-barrel arm canon is the 'classic' look, the back canons are also striking. And it allows you some flexibility with the tank mode turret. He's not the only release I'm looking forward to, but dang, he's got a lot going for him.

Honestly I couldnt even see the exposed hands until finding a pic that shows his backside.
No biggie here. Will use em for added 5mm ports for Cliffjumpers twin cannons or those Seige Astrotrain/ER Doubledealer bits.

I've never been bothered by blatantly non-disguise, cybertronian alt modes having robot mode parts visible.

If you look very carefully, you can see that the rest of his robot mode isn't hidden either.

Tarn is good. This is not a new conclusion.

What I will add is that I think it succeeds for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it's a Cybertron Ian mode so it has more leeway, it just has to be coherant. Secondly, this feels like it was designed with a full understanding of the current budget constraints, and there's no parts that feel like they got cut. In fact, getting the premium hands suggests that there was even a little extra available.

So he's physically solid, accurate and an interesting design. Perhaps a little thin front to back, but that almost gives him an action figure quality. Don't miss this one.

Very happy with this figure overall. Sure it may be a shame that they totally ditched the mini wheels for his tank mode but the overall package is definitely aces. Love the poseability and look of bot mode and the tank still looks killer too!

Shortpacking Tarn is the correct move from a sales standpoint as any Prime figure will sell more. From an action figure standpoint, Tarn is the much better figure.

Fantastic transition from page to plastic, truly a testament to the strength of Alex Milne’s character design.

One cool little detail that I’ve not seen anyone mention are the hips. The front skirts are pinned to the hips and swivel when you move the legs out to the sides. Nothing amazing mind you but I found it interesting, and I can’t recall ever having seen something of the like on another Transformer.

If I have any complaints about the figure, it’s that his lightpiping is effectively useless. The window is tiny and on the top of his head, so you need to have a light shining directly above him and in close range to get any decent effect from it. Granted, the dead eyes do sort of work for the characters menacing visage.
It’s things like this though which make me long for the days of chromed eyes.

Oh, and he's missing a bit of silver on the shoulders to mimic the other treads.

Are his kneecaps painted gold, or are they cast in gold plastic?

I don't have the figure in hand myself yet, but I'm pretty sure they're painted since the kneecaps are part of lower leg and not an independent piece
