Looks like he's seen something he desperately wishes to un-see.

 

Tape works well. Though it’d probably look a bit better if you placed the pupils a bit closer to the top of his eyes.

 

Has anyone tried painting the lion ears? I think that along with a light wash on the mane would do a lot to improve the lion head

 

Yeah, the ears being the same color as the mane has been driving me nuts. I'll definitely have to paint those when I get him next week.

 

Anyone have pics of him next to GS God Neptune?

 

Lion ears same color as mane is anime accurate and that makes me a satisfied kidult. <3

What color wash would you give the mane? A darker gold or would you go straight black?

 

He was a bit annoying to transform the first time (hindered by some unclear instructions), but once you've done it a few times, nice and easy. He's a very good one. Very nice lion mode, very good robot mode.

 

This is the face that have seen what Primus done in their private time.

 

Figure is actually easier to transform than I thought (I was dreading something like later Transmetal 2’s or Car Robots or even ROTF style complexity, this while involved is nowhere near as bad)..........I already know that some customize jobs would use a spare of this and Kingdom Primal for Flash Lio Convoy and Burning Primal, respectively

I don’t miss the spinning lion main gimmick, as that was cumbersome in the original figure.......

I know the arms are a part of the chest plate assembly, not having to be inserted in a weak slot like the Vintage figure........I kinda wish they included a larger gun, but what can you do......

Pros:
* Robot mode has a good look, and scales nicely with Kingdom & Legacy BW guys, IMO.
* Color and paint work is rather nice, at least on mine.
* Reasonably well-articulated, with even the shoulder kibble able to flip up and get out of the way of the arms in necessary.
* Lion mode is ... mostly decent, with relatively little robot stuff showing.
* The opening 'matrix door' on the chest with a blast effect port is a nice touch.

Cons:
* Robot mode proportions are a little more 'thicc' than 'anime heroic' - sort of a 'fit dad bod' vibe.
* While the knees are double-jointed for transformation, only the lower joint is a functional knee in robot mode,which looks odd.
* Doesn't really have any more beast kibble than other Lio toys in robot mode, but some of it is more awkwardly handled, with back panel and forelegs just sorta hanging out on stalks, BW Neo style.
* Transformation is not difficult, but can be annoying, with some parts dislocating or popping off easily, and a mit much work getting the body massaged/squeezed together proper for lion mode.
* You kinda get used to that lion face, but it's nigh-undeniable that it looks pretty off.
* Lion mode doesn't have a lot of useful articulation. Legs can move, but feet can't, for a "only looks good in one pose" effect.
* Weaponry is... lame. There are short little claws that stick out of the 'palm' of the kitty paws, and four tiny gun-tubes that can be mounted on the lion mane or the robot forearms or handheld like a pistol Bumblebee would be embarrassed to wield, but they can't be combined together. More mounting options would have gone a long way.

Notes:
* I was initially bothered than the robot head didn't hide well in lion mode (not having read instructions) until I figured out the tummy panel that flipped out and around.  

Overall: It's actually rather nice as toys of Lioconvoy go, though I can't help but feel they "tried too hard" and made the design a bit more complex than it needed to be, when a tweak and refinement of the original Lioconvoy toy design might have worked out better.

 

This is the best Lio Convoy so far. Yeah, the MP looks better in robot mode, but Legacy wins the lion mode and is way more fun to transform.

The only true downside to Legacy is the lion head. I would buy a 3p upgrade in a heartbeat if one were made.

I also scratch my head as to why they made this with two different yet extremely similar gold plastics. It looks a bit jarring in the mane.
