From the look of it, I'd say no. Unless you want to turn around the knee/calves sections, loosing knee functionality. But I think it'd look weird, unfortunately. Nobody knows, right now, but someone pointed out it looks like it might be the same height as CW gestalts upgraded with Perfect Effect accessories.
Out of all the Legacy figures I've bought (all of them so far), this figure is by far my favorite. Just a great figure and a massive improvement to the Combiner Wars figure. He does need a touch more paint in bot mode though
The Legacy QC is not good so far, at least for me. Had to get a 2nd Laser OP due to our first one having a decent amount of paint already missing from the crotch and biceps that kept popping off (yeah, not well designed but the 2nd figure's biceps stayed on much better). Got a 2nd Dragstrip figure due to our 1st figure having paint QC issues on the legs that I couldn't see thanks to the new packaging. Also had a weird mark on one of the legs. The 2nd figure's paint apps were good and the leg joints were a little tighter.
I get that! Whoever painted the red pinstripes missed some spots and there was a weird large reverse L-shaped black mark on one of the legs.
I was pleasantly surprised by how solid this figure feels. Simple and straightforward but in a positive way like Siege Sideswipe as opposed to Skids who feels simple and straightforward in an unrefined and underdeveloped sense. Wish there was a bit more color breakup but I guess it's accurate to the design.
I just found this guy today. I am really liking how solid this guy is, despite being chock full of swivels and hinges. I was really thrown off during my first transformation to vehicle mode. I couldn’t figure out how to get the engine bit from the chest to meet up with the engine bits on the legs. I’m puzzled by Hasbro’s design choice to make fake engine kibble in the robot chest. The original toy has a cool hinged engine that flips over to create a unique robot chest. I guess it’s an animation model thing, but I don’t like it. I don’t like the exposed hollow head in the cockpit. It doesn’t really look like a chair. There’s sort of a driver seat back and headrest sculpted inside the hollow base of the robot head. But the illusion just doesn’t work because the rest of the cockpit is so wide around it. Does anyone else display with the shoulder kibble arranged like this? I kinda like the way he looks like this. i think it makes him look beefy, sort of a Judge Dredd vibe with that helmet visor. Overall, despite my incredibly minor difference of opinion on the fake engine chest, I think Dragstrip is an amazingly good and solid action figure. The transformation is involved but straightforward, and the robot and vehicle modes are very solid. It’s a great toy.
I've had Dragstrip for about a week. He is awesome. So how does he come apart for arm mode? Just pull it at the waist? I think that seems logical but it seems like it needs more force than I feel comfortable applying. I am 6'7" with big handzez and have inadvertantly mangled some figures before. Sheared tabs and such. Any advice would be great as I don't want to force anything.
This afternoon, I figured excessive force was needed, but just like you, I was afraid I was going to break him out if I forced it. I think it’s crazy that Hasbro didn’t detail this feature in the instructions. There are going to be people out there who break this toy. To separate the two halves of the car or Drag Strip at the waist, look at the car underside aka the rear of the upper torso block. There is a tiny rectangle straight below the silver rivet. It is very small and hard to notice. This gimmick - like a minicon port of cyber key slot - appears very specifically designed only to function with a specific corresponding linkage. In this case, that linkage will be the recently revealed Menasor body. i used a pen to activate the little button. You must maintain pressure on that little button as you pull Dragstrip apart. It’s easy now to separate Dragstrip for gestalt mode, but it’s odd Hasbro didn’t communicate any of this in the instructions.
@captaingambit Thanks man! I knew it shouldn't take that much effort! I appreciate the time and effort taken to explain it. ......now off to treat Dragstrip like Darth Maul lol
I thought Dragstrip's wheels looked a little plain and unfinished so I made a set of wheel covers for him. They're modeled after the wheels on the Tyrrell P34 Formula 1 car that Dragstrip is based on. They're 3D-printed and just press into the clips. Motormaster is supposed to have all the combination instructions and a tab to separate the halves. It's rather useless to have him separate now.
It's not that odd based on what we've seen of Menasor - there are tabs built into the connection points of the 'skeleton' that fit into this slot and automatically disconnect the two halves. In other words, you're not supposed to split Drag Strip in half, the transformation does it for you. There's no point adding instructions for it when its simply not meant to split in half on its own.
Pretty cool toy for the most part, and its general look sorta kinda mutes its role as a combiner (though the design of Legacy Menasor itself does the real heavy lifting there.) * Both robot and vehicle modes do a pretty fine job evoking the cartoon design. * The shoulder bits made from the front end of the car look fairly striking in robot mode, but can easily get in the way of the arms. * Mine has the same misaligned rear spoiler as everyone else. * Feet seem to need some heel spurs to avoid falling backward under its own weight. * The set of wheels behind the shoulders look awkwardly attached. * The hollow-backed head bugs the crap out of be. Sure, it's supposed to become the seat area of the race car, but come on! make it open up into a seat if you want to do that. Don't just cavern out the back of his head to look like a dollar store 'authentics' toy, or below-average Core class, or a budget-reduced knockoff! Overall: It's ... decent. It'll probably spend most of it's life stuck to an arm.
This guy is great…definitely my favorite of the deluxe wave. I can’t wait for Menasor. And, I’m happy I never went for the CW combiner.
I figured out what was causing the misaligned spoiler on mine and fixed it. I pulled the crooked spoiler off and saw that one of the nubs that the spoiler clips on had some extra plastic flashing. The flashing was preventing the clip from attaching properly, which caused the clip to bulge out enough to make the spoiler crooked. I trimmed that off with an Xacto, clipped the spoiler back on and now its flush.
