So my copy arrived with the Shattered Glass head installed, and with the wrong paint for the Autobot logos. That was easily fixed with a screwdriver, and some Toyhax stickers.  


In all seriousness, I'm super happy that we were given two head options with a single release that make a lot of sense for whatever collection you need it to be in. I like this trend and I hope it continues, it's really great.

I'm not going to go into a full review, as this is just the Kingdom Ultra Magnus mold again. The extra paint on the missile launchers can crack the plastic on the ports, and that is annoying.

He comes with the sword/ax/Matrix combo from Legacy G2 Laser Prime(which I hated), and it's even dumber here because of the tab on the sword, the hands here can't hold just the sword, and it sucks. Seems weird to not nerf the tab for this release, but oh well. Here is Galaxy Prime holding it, and the Shattered Glass head I will probably never use again.


All in all, recommended!

 

So he's good and evil?

 

Sort of. Similar to the old Botcon Slicer/SG Wheeljack, it's a figure designed to fill multiple roles depending on your preference--SG Magnus, Delta Convoy, and Magna Convoy in this case.

 

They didn’t paint his wheels? Seems like a missed opportunity for a premium figure.

 

It’s missing a lot of paint aps. It’s one of the reasons I ended up canceling my preorder.

 

Same with the unpainted gun. In fact, I just gave my Delta Magnus the Siege Magnus weapons and it adds a lot.

 

I wish they hadn't painted the rocket launchers, had to file some of the paint off the pegs so they could fit on mine.

Also did the head swap and it was such a hard fit I am a little scared to swap them back, might just keep the skull head as a vok or something.

 

He's not a premium figure. Just a regular leader that comes with extra bits.

Agreed. I collect SG but I canceled my preorder cuz cost and his mold sucks in general. Only reason to get it is for the comic and skull head but is it worth the premium?

 

I had no interest in this one until I read the comic, a pretty interesting issue.

The markup is for the extras: an extra head, weapons and a comic book. They could have added extra paint, I suppose, but then we're getting into $70+ territory and Hasbro obviously felt like he wouldn't sell if the price kept creeping higher.

Yeah, most of the SG figures are getting marked up about $8-10 for the comic. Leaders are going for $55 right now, so that $63 for Magnus makes sense. Remember the actual "premium finish" figures were running substantially higher - about 50%. PF Magnus was retailing for $83.

 

Those premium finish figs were Takara import figs so the added cost is part of that. And do comics (film covers?) gos for $8 these days? (I don’t buy comics so no idea).

IDK, less paint, plus higher price even with some extra pieces on a mold that’s paid for seems a bit rich.

 

Was it only $63? It’s been a while since I’ve looked at it, but when I canceled my pre-order I could’ve sworn it was closer to $70. Still, $13 extra for a bunch of parts I don’t really care about and if you are pain abs didn’t feel like much of a deal to me. But that’s just me. I didn’t have any interest in the shattered glass head or the matrix or the ax. Or the sword for that matter. I just wanted Ultra Magnus in Powered Convoy colors. To be honest, the only extra bit that I really would’ve liked would’ve been alternate shoulder armor with either a regular Autobot symbol on it or no symbol at all, for us Diaclone purists.

I'm so happy he comes with the bonus traditional Magnus head as he will go into my Diaclone shelf

 

Got mine this week from Hasbro Pulse.

I bought two and both boxes were crushed from the paper padding in the shipping box. The boxes are so big and flimsy; pretty embarrassing for an exclusive figure.

The figures on the other hand are nice but very loose.

 

I don't know if it's the photography, the paint, or what, but the sculpt of the skull face looks a little 'soft' to me, at least compared to the early renders.
