Dang... I was dead set on skipping him. But man, this mold looks great in these colors. I especially like the red wheels and guns.So likely, instead I am gonna sell my Generations Crosscut instead. 

 

I hate the red wheels, but like everything else, which is weird because I don't care for any other version of this mold. The robot just looks so GOOD in these colors.

 

Wouldnt mind the tires if the rims got some love (which I admit would be hard with the two methods in play).  I\'m kinda at the point the get them all bug has passed so I don\'t mind picking and choosing.

 

Oh yay. Skids in red and grey is still just....Skids. Two of this lackluster mold is one too many. I normally love Diaclone but this toy is about as fun as a Monday.

I\'m not sure why the Skids remolds get so much flack when literally all of them look better than Skids does.

Even with the red wheels, this is a must have for me. The silver is immaculate and the red pops hard, so much more dynamic than the others.

 

Krylon's current formula sucks ass though. It's way too watery.

 

The best deco for the mold yet. But I wished Hasbro's gone the extra mile of painting the bummer better (add the red stripe and the orange lights) But seeing the how much paint apps this repaint got, I and understand. Besides that, I really wish they chose a dark red plastic color... this looks so KO. But at least everything is easy to DIY (except the red stripe on bummers) paint-wise.

And damn... the hollowness in the inner legs recall the T30/IDW(?) Crosscut all over again, which is not as obvious on Skids. The left knee joint of that T30 Crosscut mold shattered the 3rd-4th time I transform him.

 

Man I was hoping I could skip him as I definitely need to cut down on who I get this year as space is becoming a severe issue in my life rn, but damn he looks good. I want to get him, but I think I might wait.

So far its looking like the only must buys for me in wave 2 are Prowl (because Animated), Shrapnel (I think he was wave 2?), Metalhawk (depending on how he looks), and Skyquake (unless they announce a G2 version)

 

Damn. Now, is it worth buying a clearanced Skids and a pin punch to try to swap the front wheels...

 

Buy a spare Crankcase and skip the pin punch.
Back wheel hinges aren't pinned and the front wheels are just clipped on.

I am really digging the silver paint with the red wheels, looks dope. I didn't have the last version of this mould but I think I may have to pick this guy up. Love the robot mode too in these colours.

 

hmm. I’ve had good luck using automotive paint, particularly the kind meant for painting wheels. Duplicolor charcoal grey wheel paint is great for setting up a basecoat, at least on the body panels of figures, so if the paint chips it looks like metal underneath. I’ve only had to paint TF tires a couple times (that dishwater brown of energon rodimus is gross) but a good sanding and that wheel paint has held up great.

 

Yeah, but someone else pointed out the wheels are halved. If I just swapped Crankcase's front wheels, they'd look like this, but black on red:

Not to mention the clips that hold the wheel on are also red, and would be visible in vehicle mode. It's worth it to punch the pin I think. (If I can find a cheap Skids) I really like his colors, but I do not like those red wheels.

Looks really nice, I'll have to see how the roof head looks with these colors, still shocked they did that.

 

So, Hasbro has PTSD after the brouhaha over ER Optimus's fists.

"We have to get the fist color right."
"But it'll mean red whe-"
"WE HAVE TO GET THE FIST COLOR RIGHT." *eye twitching*

 

Just a passing thought but some G1 toys had wheels that were other than Black and so did some Unicron Trilogy Characters too.

But at the risk of pouring petrol on the fire, I would say that perhaps the back bumper would look better in black too. maybe with Black rims on the red tires.

I do think the red tires are "a little peculiar" but I think I they are growing on me a bit too.

I wonder if they have got rid of that strange hair shaped crack in the side window yet I had that so bad on my burnout I had to return it.

 

The mixed wheel type (mushroom front & pin back) still bothers me more than the wheel color. It's an eyesore.

 

My plans. Hardest part for me will be matching the silver paint. I like the red rims, so they stay.
