Possibly? And hey, 5mm combining means we can use the weaponizers as makeshift limbs for Volcanicus? Not a bad thought. :D

That's what we're all suspecting is coming. And it's not impossible. We got a triceratops forming the head and upper torso and a brontosaurus forming the lower torso, just as it is with Dinoking.

Why else would they change the "Grimlock dino head in the chest" that they established in 2 toys and 2 animated shows? Clearly done to be Dinoking. They're just selling the dinobot retools first because they know Dinoking is a guaranteed sell with all the Victory figures we've gotten. If they did Dinoking first, people would skip the dinobots

That's why it was important to buy up the siege and earthrise micromasters when you had the chance! :p

But I hear you. If you envision the current core class as being like a scaled down version of the voyager class, then a legion or micromaster class would be ideal to represent a scaled down deluxe class. Probably a reintroduction of the micromasters but representing "name" characters" (sideswipe, etc) would be the best modern compromise. But I honestly don't think a motorcycle at that scale is viable. I still have the original tfp legion Arcee and it's hard to fiddle with her without her falling apart.

The Micromasters and bases play patern of earth rise was totally my jam, and if I were running hasbro it would have been continued and expanded. but I get the sense most fans were Meh on it. the core class feels almost like a bone thrown to me, to keep giving me small scale name characters to fill out the bases I have even if they aren't putting out any more bases.

But it's one of those things where its a matter of if it's worth going for these things. Do I want a dinobot combiner that scales with core Optimus Prime? I mean, I still have the potp dinobots after all. (Actually that fact has also kept me from going all in on the studio series dinobots, so...)

This guy looks neat. Not the best core class figure but given the combination I'm willing to see past that. Can't wait to get him in hand.

Oh, there's definitely people who will prefer one version over another, and some who will buy both. I'm just pointing out that Hasbro has a habit of putting the "retool" out before the main mold use.

Have a pretty decent collection of Micromasters myself. Wish they took off. Some of them are fun with my Legends Shockwave (haven't yet bought the Core.) Love tiny guys even if my big hands aren't the most elegant with them and the introduction of bases makes them even funner. Actually the thing I bought the most of TFP was the Cyberverse. Little jealous of your Arcee even if it sounds like her construction isn't good. I wasn't ever able to find one. It's a tiny bot that sorta scales with the big ones in alt mode, like some kind of awesome crossover.

I think it’s cool that this version of Volcanicus uses Slug as the chest piece instead of Grimmy

It’s only because the molds are made for Dino king but they know if they released volcanicus after him no one would double dip.

Wouldn't be surprised if Dinoking is a selects six pack or something too. Like release the Dino’s at mainline to get people with no interest in a semi obscure JG1 team to still get the mold.

Yeah that's how I'm hoping they release Dinoking, as a GS all together six pack set. Seeing pvp's video review with the torso combined with the junkion limbs is getting me more interested in seeing the final combined mode. This interconnectivity should be a lot of fun. Can't wait to see Dinoking though lol.

Slug looks like a much better figure than Sludge on his own. Combine mode looks promising, tho I'm a little worried about how small it'll be as Volcanicus/Dinoking, looks like it'll be smaller than Star Saber. At the same time I suppose that scale would explain why Star Saber claps them all the time.

Slag is good, Sludge is bad but interesting in transformation, so that makes him more memorable than literally every core class toy out so far for the better

There’s nothing bad about Sludge to me. And I’m quick to point out flaws in toys, cartoons and comic books that bother me.

He holds together better than the Prime Terrorcons, he looks good in dinosaur mode and acceptable in robot mode. I don’t expect there to have been any more articulation than he has. The Dino kibble in robot mode is tolerable due to its small size and doesn’t ruin the toy for me. I would have liked his stomach to have been painted in robot mode and his dinosaur neck to have not been hollow. But it’s a core class not a deluxe. You have to make for allowances.

I'm very excited for this set. The ss dinobots are great, but I only have grimmy. These obviously have quite a few sacrifices in the bot and alt modes, but it makes for an incredible combined mode that I'm looking forward to

The Core Dinobots/Dinoforce aren't meant to scale with Star Saber, they're meant to scale with the smaller scale Core figures like Prime and Megatron.

Got Slug in yesterday and he's honestly pretty nice overall. Sure, compromises were made, but in hand he's a fun little figure.

Yep. This was a feature that Evan and Mark pushed heavily during the initial promotion for these guys.

I'm definitely checking out some Fossilizers as Volcanicus limbs while I'm waiting to complete the set!

Real missed opportunity to make chibi Dinobots.
