Interestingly Chefatron did not beat Legacy Armada Prime with a pencil in his review. I watched the whole thing expecting it to happen, but it never did. He gave the figure a 10/10, though. He must know how much of a meme the pencil test has become.

As a side note, I was feeling peeved when he didn't transform the Super Mode legs properly (the guns were left folded inside the legs), left the headlight-tabs open in the Super Mode abdomen, and couldn't figure out how to stand the trailer without the cab. I guess that's what happens when the instructions aren't included, but the earliest in-hand pics showed better-looking attempts at the transformations.

All these pictures of Armada Optimus Prime made me realize how much I missed Optimus Prime Super Modes. American Transformers we're lucky if we get an upgrade, but any Japanese Related Transformers we get Super Modes. I dare say Armada Optimus Prime has one of the Best. I really really hope they make upgraded Armada Jetfire and Overload to combine with him.

 

Yeah, supermodes and non-gestalt combiners need to come back.

 

I do miss Optimus combining with something to have a super mode or a combination. Feel like the last time we got something like that was with DOTM.

Wish that would make a comeback.

 

I wonder if the team at that time wasn't mandated to have that auto-transforming feature of what Armada Supermode Optimus Prime would look like. Because the series prior Car Robots was pretty decent.

Regardless, just overall enthused about this. The Hasbro/Takara gang overall is on a roll and keep them rolling!

 

If the trailer didn't have to auto-transform, I think that the legs would look nicer but not have much in the way of meaningful articulation due to probably being packed with gimmicks. Compare to the line's Megatron or Tidal Wave. Articulation itself wasn't highly prioritised by the designers during Armada because I'm thinking they intentionally went for a slightly younger demographic than usual so that they could age the toyline up one year, as it were, with every new series.

 

I remember there was gonna be a power up for Prime in The Last Knight but it got scrapped. Still appeared in toys, though.

a lot of repaints of a lot of optimus molds from 1-step to tiny turbo to leader class(first edition) and so on and so forth apparently it was going to happen until, it was scrapped or so

As for swapping a junker arm on, why not replace it at the shoulder instead of heat removing pins at the elbow? It's much easier, just a mushroom peg held captive by two screws. On one side you've got a spring gimmick to worry about but it's not too bad to put back together.

 

I had some kind of building kit as a kid that was kinda like a Lego technic knock-off / copy, was mostly grey plastics with some reds and blues

Instead of the usual technic pins, they were 5mm tubes roughly a 1cm long with a raised ring in the middle and a thin hole through the centre

They worked perfectly as minicon pegs, looked a little like those 3d printed adaptors as well

But for the life of me I can't remember what the toy brand was or what they were called

It's kinda driving me nuts

I do remember they used to be in Toymaster roughly around 2004-2006-ish

 

I appreciate you looking out! Yeah, I treated it with kid gloves and still messed it up, but I didn’t realize the order of operations was crucial- I just did it the same way I did as a kid, although back then the plastic was 20 years fresher so I’m sure it was more pliable.

I’m opting to replace just the gold piece due to how difficult it is to find a junker without the paint on his shoulder and arm scratched beyond belief. After I get this one done, I’ll just retire Prime to storage and the new Commander will be my Armada Prime.

This post is a public service. I had no idea why my supermode Powerlinx Prime sometimes felt normal and sometimes felt like I was forcing the whole thing.
