Do you make any of your figures "left-handed?" That is to say, if they've only got one gun, do you put it in anyone's left hand (Or, I suppose, if you prefer left-handed Transformers, do you make anyone right handed?)? For example, in my own Generations toys, I've got Smokescreen and Sunstreaker as left handed. Smokescreen because it seems to fit his slightly shifty character, and Sunstreaker because Sideswipe is right handed and it increases the mirror-image/twin factor. I've also got Perceptor carrying his G1 gun in his left hand, since his light-cannon is on the right, along with Red Alert, whose shoulder canon I put on the right and a gun in his left.
I subconsciously put all my figures weapons in their right rand but maybe I'll start switching it up with certain figures
If they have a shoulder-mounted-weapon (Soundwave, Perceptor) or an arm cannon (Megatron), then I put the weapon in the opposite hand. That is, IF I use a weapon. 9 times out of 10 I sell the weapon or put it in a parts bin. I usually give them a sword and a shield, so they use both hands. Which hand gets which accessory is dependent on how I have them posed on the shelf.
Got a couple like that too. I forget which I have which way, but I have Blitzwing and Doubledealer holding both weapons (gun and sword), but in the opposite hands of each other. Oddly, Soundwave is one of the few where I keep his shoulder-cannon and gun in the same hand. Mostly because I forget that's a gun on his shoulder.
I base the hands off of the first artwork I see from tfwiki.net. For example: Breakdown is the only left-handed Stunticon because of his page image.
I've got about 30% or so of my TFs as Left handed, simply to change it up. About 30% are 'ambidextrous' in that their either have weapons in both hands or I switch it up every time I change their pose. Some of who I decide is left-handed is based off artwork or fanart I've seen of them (much like Kirby), other times it's just 'this should be cool'
Because I'm right handed they always are right handed but I trike to mix it up like if a weapon has a peg on its side I put it in the hand so the peg is facing inwards or if they are mold brothers just to mix it up.
I prefer right-handed because the way I handle figures makes it a little annoying when it's in their left.
All of my figures are right handed. Though, I should probably go back and check to see how accurate that is, especially when it comes to masterpiece figures.
If I ever own a Spinster, he will absolutely be left-handed, for obvious reasons. Spoiler In case you don't get it, sinister is Latin for left-handed. Sort of.
I'm left handed, so yes, I make sure a few of them are left handed. Generally it's the ones I perceive as having more quirky/artistic/unusual personalities, and if I have a mold represented by more than one character, I try to make sure at least one is lefty. For example, Prowl is definitely right brained, so he's right handed, but Bluestreak is kinda left brained, so he's left handed. Sideswipe is a righty, Red Alert is a lefty. And so on. It makes sense in my head anyway, and provides some visual variety to my shelves.
This. It's not so much a matter of the figure being right/lefthanded so much as "which way makes pegs and mold/tooling marks facing inside?"
For most Transformers, I have them handle their weapons however I feel like they should that day, if the weapon doesn't look awkward in one hand (Like Cybertron Hardtop's Sniper Rifle). For combiners, however, I have the individual members handle their weapons on the side of the body that they form (Bonecrusher holds his gun in his left hand, Scavenger in his right). Torso bots just hold it however I feel like they should.
