Commander Megatron, Titan Tidal Wave, and HasTak finally releasing that Armada Prime would be incredible.

I agree to an extent. If the character is "G1ified", then the scale they had in their "home" canon is more or less out the window(I suspect this includes JG1 characters as well). But the more accurate it is to source material I think the more scale-accurate it'll get.

    Fair?

Nah, I think Omega Doom is a better choice

I just don’t see how, from Hasbro’s POV, a $30-$40 price hike at the Titan level is simply inflation alone. Omega Supreme’s MSRP was $150. Scorponok was $160. Ark was $160 and shot up to $170 after the pandemic shenanigans. Now they’re asking $190 for Legacy Metroplex.

If it’s all due to inflation, toy collecting is a quirky if dire wake up call to how horrible the coming economic fallout will be. I just can’t justify a $190 mass-produced Titan. I could justify Victory Saber as an obscure Japan-only character funded through HasLab. As an on-the-shelf product, that $190 price tag tells me:

    1) Greed, after Hasbro’s numbers being strong in the middle of a damn pandemic

    2) Titans aren’t selling well and the fans are paying for it

I feel like this has probably been said in some form, but I don't think Hasbro made a good choice in choosing Cybertron Metroplex as the Unicron Trilogy Titan figure. He's not a particularly iconic or memorable design or character, even as a fan of the Unicron Trilogy, and fans haven't really been asking for him. On the other hand, fans have been asking for Titan Class Tidal Wave for years, and I think Tidal Wave is a much more attractive design, speaking subjectively of course, so I think he should've been the obvious choice for the Unicron Trilogy Titan Class spot. I think it's great that Hasbro is finally acknowledging the Unicron Trilogy, but even as someone who has been begging for more Unicron Trilogy for years, I doubt I'll be ordering this one because it's just too much money and space to dedicate to a character/design that I have no attachment to and doesn't look good enough to make up for that.

I'm happy for everyone who is excited for this, and in many ways I share that excitement over the Unicron Trilogy finally getting some love, but I just hope this isn't the "test" that Hasbro is going to be using to see if the Unicron Trilogy is worth further investment in because this a pretty obscure and expensive figure to be testing it on, especially when there are so many other UT characters that are better known and easier to look at.

I can understand your point of being done with G1 but it is what clearly sells. I agree that ER prime was over done but I fell like there are more G1 characters that haven't gotten the representation they deserve. I also think that the only issue that I have with Legacy so far is I'm not a fan of the titan as I feel that there are much better options, such as the Nemesis primus is a bit of a stretch.

Been a fan since 84' and never stopped collecting. I actually like most of the UT figures when they were out. Still own the original Cybertron Metroplex (and a testshot of one). However, this one really confuses me. I remember when Cybertron Metroplex came out, there were quite a few mixed reaction on it. Most people enjoyed Sparkdrinker more than the main toy. Other than the size, doesn't look like much of an improvement. My guess is the original will have a better feeling of solidity compared to this new one.

Now Tidal Wave, would have been all over that.

Option 3: he's 22 inches tall with a giant weapon. That's bigger than OS or Scorps (although maybe not as thick). Hasbro just may believe the future of the Titan price point is more for more (not inflation broadly, but specific price increases for shipping and oil are certainly helping push the price up, as well)

Yup. These are toys first and foremost. If Hasbro has found "bigger sells" then they're going to go bigger when they can. They'll occasionally test the waters with engineering over size, but I think despite Rodimus, they're hesitant to cross that rubicon with Titan just yet.

Very well said, and 100% agreed. The more I think about it, the more I find this choice pretty baffling:

    • Obscure character from an already fairly obscure line. (I love Cybertron but feel like it’s the least “known” of the 3 UT series)
    • Barely showed up in fiction.
    • Original figure already was a screen accurate representation.
    • Kinda poor design (with very poor alt mode) that doesn’t seem to have been significantly improved (from what can be gleaned from this image)
    • $190

as opposed to Armada Tidal Wave, who’s a pretty sweet design, had some iconic appearances, but who’s figure pretty much totally sucked and has lots of room for improvements and would be amazing at this scale (the core seeker mold would probably look decent-if-massive on his Aircraft Carrier portion) - just PLEASE use the Micron Legend deco when you do make him.

Wasn't Cybertron the best selling out of the UT lines? Could be misremembering but iirc then Cybertron did the best. And the original toy is 15 years old at this point so I don’t think it matters because not everyone has it already.

I'll be honest, I actually like the Cybertron version of 'Metroplex' . I've still the old Takara version equivalent (Megalo Convoy, which is what I call him. To me, Metroplex is the G1 guy) stashed somewhere.

I'm wondering if this could lead to other members of the Giant Planet getting new releases.

I haven't bought any transformers in years, if they finally start making new versions of armada characters I'd buy em all in a heartbeat, like imagine a version of Jetfire and Optimus prime with modern articulation! Or a new demolishor!

I'd say it's a stretch for either of them happening but that that WOULD be awesome. I would imagine they'd be Commanders the both of them if they did happen.

That looks awful. Megalo Convoy wasn't great to begin with. At $190 is a no go.

Considering how the other two UT Titan candidates (Omega Supreme, potentially Tidal Wave) are upgrade characters for figures that don't exist yet, metroplex seems like the only viable pre-UT resurgence titan. It's odd that he's placed before a Kingdom-style UT celebration in the middle of a mixed line, sure, but I'm certainly not complaining

    Fair point.

Nonetheless this is still going to be a major line in the sand for me. Perhaps once it’s on clearance I’ll bite. $190 is just to steep. I’m already dreading when deluxes become $25…

I mean, okay? Nobody's begging anyone to buy this. You're not the first to get priced out and you won't be the last, but so far we haven't seen anything suggesting these price increases are hurting anything.

BBTS is already at this point. So we'll see how it bears out.

They gave the Ark a robot mode for Kingdom so it's not like that would really matter.
