They said they'd be reusing the mold. So good old Hero Prime is coming some time in the future.

It's taken me a few weeks, but I've just realised mine arrived without one of the mirrors from the long nose. I just assumed it only had one on the U.S. drivers side :laugh:

 

Confirmed on the stream yesterday, Volvo VNR Prime is going to be released in "classic" Prime colors. They didn't expand on what classic means, but I assume it'll be traditional Prime colors and not Hero Prime colors for one reason. Evan said that the Volvo VNR would probably be what Prime would scan if he landed on Earth today.

 

A bit disappointing... I was looking forward to hero Prime...

 

Maybe there still will be a hero prime. Just not with volvo parts? might be reshelled with the same engineering. Me personally i'm not too broken up by this. I love the volvo mold and think it would look great in traditional colors

 

Understandable. Personally, I'm incredibly happy about it because it leans into something I'd really like the franchise to do, which is updated alt modes. Now that most of the original Earth crew has gotten relatively "definitive" updates, I'd like to see future do overs forego the 80s alt modes and re-imagine them as if they landed on Earth today. Make the Seekers as F-22s (could double as an Energon Starscream mold), make Bumblebee a 2022 VW Bug etc etc and make the bot modes still recognizable as those characters as well. To an extent, it's really one of the few "new" directions I could see them taking with the G1 cast.

 

True, they do need new ways to bring back the G1 crew again and again and again. From Earthrise on they've hit the g1 toon forms pretty spot on

 

I didn't get the holiday version because I was waiting for this mold/design in regular colors. So I was excited to hear them confirm they are doing it. Now the waiting game begins for it lol.

Yeah I agree with updating the cast with modern designs. I'm sure they'll get around to it eventually and I'll be interested to see it.

 

Yea, and for me at least, there's no need to do new molds as long as they maintain the current ones and then they can always just re-run them when they want more 80s style releases. New alt modes is where they kind of need to go, especially if they want to keep the franchise relevant with more modern audiences.

I've got a bunch of ideas for updates they could do, would be pretty awesome.

 

They need to hit the Diaclone Car/Robots style next.

 

Just got him, and loving the design. Yes, I would buy repaints. Hell, I'd grab an MP based on this design.

 

How close is the head blue to Netflix Prime's dark blue? I sorta want to try something

 

The head on Netflix Optimus is too dark.
Holiday Prime's head is more Cobalt, much too light a shade.

 

True, true. If Hero Prime gets his own mold, he won’t have the ER trailer and the fragile chest panel that this toy does. Also, he could be redecoed into Combat Hero Prime, one of my favorite Optimus color schemes ever (along with Costco Energon Prime, but that’s a different redeco for a different mold - and if we ever get that from Evolution Armada Prime along with an Energon Overload, I’m going to be so happy).
