Hey everyone, since I try to collect my Movie Series in a scale based on the Deluxe Studio Series(1:38/39), @Dr Danco made me do the math on the Old Leader Class Brawl and we found out that he actually is in scale with the bots. And altrough the SS and OS versions are more acurate, they are way to big to fit in with the rest cause scale ;-) So I had no choice but to whip out the junker I had laying around and search for the missing parts.. it was a Desert Energon Brawl to begin with so he had to suffer a repaint. here are some pictures of the process and the end results. He now scales perfectly with my WJ Blackout, Rotf Mixmaster, AOE Deluxe Lockdown, and SS Barricade and Stinger. I am working on a DOTM Leader Megatron to fill the ranks and then ill look into Starscream. (I now have the BMB Screamer but am not a fan of his jetmode) ill upload his final botmode soon, the paint needs to cure for 24 hours.
Looks great. Never got the 07 version, but i have desert and the blue ko repaint. Always liked this figure, he just looks slightly too knock-kneed. What paints are those? Im working on a military based sub-group but know little about camouflage, those colours are just what im looking for.
they are Tamiya colors, green the base, Ts91 (spraypaint)with LP26 in a jar, the Brown is Ts90(spraypaint) and Lp25 in jar and I used Nato black for the black (Ts63 spraypaint and XF 69(jar) For the robotmode I used LP6- (semigloss gunmetal) LP11 (silver) LP62 (titanium gold) and some more colors. the painting is fun, just make your own masking tape. I agree with the knees, but painting them makes them actually look much better.
It is so great to have a scale accurate Brawl! His botmode even scales about right 1:39 (the SS Deluxe scale) would make him 26 feet tall, witch is perfect! His botmode needs some paint tidying up (some blacking out and some minor touchups) And I want to do the tracks justice, they look a little to clean as they are now so I need to see how they are made up and what they look like a little dirtied up. The tank itself will not be dirtied or weathered (I like my bots properly washed) but to have clean treads on a tank is not how it should be. But some paint did him good. I really like how he turned out.
So.. with nothing to do today I decided to do the tracks. They are forged iron plates with a rubber pad atatched, no paint so they get some rust on them. First I added sand color inside the tracks. then layered the rust color on the track plates. Then it was time to add the bare steel color as scratches and added the rubber black paint on each of the pads. Then added a coat of sand again and dipped it off. Left is done, right is still just the black. And then gently streaked the rubber black over that and called it done. with drying time and 2 pots of coffee it took about 2.5 hours to get it done I also took 2 triangles out of each lower leg, giving them a little more contourwitch to me lightens the bult a little. Of course I painted them in to make them match the panels. And here he is all ready to Brawl and Devestate ;-)
Outstanding work on Brawl, and as someone who tries to their collecting "to scale" I love the group shot!
Ofcourse you can! Ill upload one today! Would you like one with just the Decepticons or all figures in scale? and in botmode or altmode?
I got these still on my phone, ill get some better ones soon, my desk is littered with leader DOTM Megatron at the moment, and that is the only place big enough to display them all.
Seconded, those look fantastic - thanks for posting these! Now if only someone would make a 1/24 scale F-22 or MH-53 for my own collection...
1/24 will be difficult but there is a 1/32 scale F22 raptor that could work with the MPM's talking of scale, I decided to go MPM and therefore this brawl is to small.. if anyone is interested, please drop me a P.m.
