Been working on this one awhile. My first post on Radicons Mod pages. Some shots the yellow paint looks WAY off, but its actually good. Must be the halogen lights. Still have alot of touch ups..I guess its still WIP. Need to paint more where the collar exposes interior.. Tried to show alot of different positions and lighting for both head and collar. One pic has head and collar panels retracted to show its true. LOTS of careful measuring with some calipers and scale. All parts easy to come by. Ball jointed collar is VERY sensitive and must be done right, but I got em working, and they should have just done this to begin with. The mounts the collars is on, is removable. ANY 3rd party could make these pieces, and anyone with a leader bumblebee and the ability to push out 4 pins can do it. You just remove the collar assembly, push pins that hold hinge, either replace or modify. Head mod. Once again, tight tolerances, but SOME play. Hinge mechanism retracts into the cavity for car mode. Head is ball jointed, and can pivot 2 ways in addition to ball joints, giving any head position or height possible. If this were like this from the factory, I dont think it would be warming. It looks RIGHT in person. Anyways..Like I said, First time posting a custom here, Be Gentle... Good solid mods there bud, the collar improvements are much needed. I think the paint looks great too, some blue on the eyes and he'd be darn near perfect!
Thanks Big Hank! I thought about it, what would you go with? Like a light, metallic wash or straight up blue Flat or gloss? Wanted to do that, got to paint hood pins, and other stuff too.
Well the way I'd go about it is to install some LED eyes, lol. But I think if you were to paint the eyes silver or aluminum and then paint clear blue over that it would look great. Finish up with a very watery/heavily thinned dark blue wash to darken the outer rim of the eyes and call it a day.
Looks great man. I have mine in pieces right now getting ready to do pretty much the same thing. I'm going to try to ball joint his had as well. Do what BH said to do with the eyes and he will look awesome.
Yep...Im tossin it back in forth between doin some LEDs for the first time. do you guys just get some micro LEDs from radio shack and contain everything in the head? There seems to be enough room, thats for sure.. The more I think about it...I think im gunna try LEDs... Any suggestions?
BH knows more about LED's than I do. Putting everything in the head might be tricky When I do mine I just going to paint the eyes.
I think if I cut off the piping part for the eyes, and install some of those micro LEDs, with a small penlite battery and a micro on off switch ion back of head...? sound right Big Hank?
Hows it goin Big Hank? Do you have this mold? Im thinking of doing the LEDs, would you do one for each eye, or just one and use the piping? Would you contain the battery and switch all in the head? Just wondering if you had input, Thanks!
Love it Snake Eyes, it came out awesome. The ball jointed neck and collar bone is something this action figure should have brought from factory but Hasbro could care less about these little details. Guess they figure they have all of us for those details, lol. Congrats. If your are able to add some blue led's to his eyes that will put the cherry on the ice cream cake for your custom.
Thanks alot man Thank you too! I hear ya, I personally think one micro LED and a small battery with a micro switch would work..thats what im gunna go for. As for the pop up neck parts and ball joints for collar parts...all those came from a HFTD insecticon to do these mods. Just remember, the tolerances on the collar parts are tight. Just measure the middle most secion of the top collar part where the pin goes trhough, cut that part off, epoxy on a ball joint where the center of the ball ends up the SAME LENGTH as where the pinned part was and you will be set.
