I Totally Agree. Wheelie has balls, man. Starscream is easily more lame than Wheelie.
Beachcomber: You guys can put your lives at risk fighting the Decepticons. I am just going to sit here, get stoned and hang out with my woodland friends. Oh, my inaction caused the idyllic meadow and my woodland friends to be destroyed; that sucks.
Daniel without any doubt and I'm not really fond of Windblade
The Nutshack theme plays in my head almost everytime I see Skids and/or Mudflap.
Skyfire. What a snooze. What a wuss.
Dear Harmony Gold: Go ___ yourself.
You ruined Jetfire, what could have been an awesome character.
I use to hate G1 Wheelie until I read "Wheelie the Wild Boy of Quentesa".
Must I remind you all of Buscemitrader?
Wait...can we say Carlos Lopez?
Actually also MarysueBlade
But all he did was help Optimus carry his trailer.
His voice tho, it hurts
I was hoping Sqweeks would get bisected in the latest movie, alas I was upset once it became obvious he would make it to the end.
G1 Wheelie is not useless. He killed a Sweep with his slingshot in 5fod.
Going back to this in a more objective fashion, I'd say RID2015 Grimlock, RID2015 Fixit, G1 Rodimus Prime, and G1 Beachcomber. With guys like G1 Wheelie and the ROTF twins, you kind of know they're dead on arrival, and there's no sense of disappointment with them because there isn't any point where you have anything but low expectations for them. Wheelie has an annoying voice, and the twins are plain offensive. Plus, to their very little credit, the ROTF twins did help find the Matrix (albeit accidentally) and held their own against Devastator (albeit disappointingly), and Wheelie could mostly handle himself fairly well.
With G1 Rodimus Prime, I liked Hot Rod in The Movie, his dynamic with Kup, and while he could be hotheaded and impulsive, he meant well and actually displayed good diplomacy skills. As Rodimus Prime, though, he could be insensitive to things like a robot losing his entire planet to the Autobot/Decepticon war and one of his best friends getting chopped to bits, and constantly shirked responsibility whenever he could. Say what you will about IDW Bumblebee, but at least when he was voted Autobot leader against his will, he actually tried to do the job expected of him to the best of his ability, and didn't cut and run when it became inconvenient for himself.
G1 Beachcomber's big episode involved him deserting his comrades in the middle of a battle to play with animals, and then gets those selfsame animals' home destroyed by the Decepticons. Slag. Him.
I like RID2015 Grimlock and Fixit. I really do. Grimlock featured heavily in the best episode of the series and was generally a fun, likable character, and Fixit had a really interesting weakness that had great potential for exploring his character. But MAN did the writers not know how to use them! Grimlock was fine for most of the series. I get he's not meant to be the same kind of powerhouse he was in G1 or Fall of Cybertron, but by Season 3, they played up his childishness beyond not only the point of being believable, but made it unbearable whenever he got the focus in that season.
Fixit was a really interesting character because he was the small non-combatant who wanted to be a hero and help out the larger bots, and while at first his speech impediment seemed like it would be played for laughs (and it was), but the episode where we learned his greatest fear was breaking down and being thrown away like garbage gave him some level of depth... and then except for an episode where we see them try to repair Fixit (and we learn NOTHING about how breaking down might affect him personally), this never gets any focus again in the series. What a letdown.
Read the Marvel run, Cosmos slaughters a ridiculous number of Cons in Darkmount when Blaster and the Minibots go attempt to rescue Scrounge. One of the few "funny" comments on TFWiki that I actually like is in reference to this.
That, and I really hate G1 Grimlock. Actually, I think I hate pretty much EVERY version of Grimlock that's basically Wolverine without the bushido schtick. So throw FOC Grimlock on the pile as well.
Though he's intelligent, his alt mode is a monstrous microscope! His only use is zooming in on objects. He can't even move around on his own while he's a microscope.
I mean, wouldn't it be easier to put the microscope capabilities inside the optics of his bot mode and gave him a better alt mode instead?
You're serious, aren't you?
First off, Perceptor's alt mode is on tracks, so it COULD move. Technically, he also had a tank mode, so he most assuredly COULD move in alt mode. Having writers who failed to notice this is on them, not on the character.
Second, the Transformers in G1 were created from the Diaclone/Microchange/etc. molds, so the toys were there first. Since they had a Microchange microscope toy as part of the deal, that's where we get Perceptor.
Also he is a wrecker soo...
And he saved God Ginrai's life.
I have to admit.. until I started diving into the pool of pain that Headmasters is I never quite got all the Wheelie hate, he was pretty harmless in most American media.. but my word I wanted to kick him into a star by episode 4!
And Headmasters has knocked anything out of worst TF series by miles! It makes Energon look like great TV!
