Panera Bread employee who posted TikTok video 'exposing' how mac and cheese is prepared was fired

Did she deserve it? Ehh I honestly don’t think so, it’s a stupid reason to be fired. And I don’t care for Panera Bread anymore anyways since they started fucking up I-I mean “updating” some of their menu items. ( They completely fucked up my favorite sandwich there and the cherry pastry and I’m pissed:mad ) Not suprised in the least though, I mean ... you post a video like that ... don’t expect to get off free of charge by a company.

I've never eaten at a Panera before. I tried once but not a single thing on the menu appealed to me.

Yeah, aside from the few items I actually liked but ones that were changed, it’s not worth eating there really. Gets expensive after a while too.

I don’t know, I would assume most restaurants like other businesses would have something of the sorts. Like a “you talk shit about your job you loose it” deal. But this is ridiculous.

Honestly, whenever you take a photo or video of the inner workings at your job, yeah...you do deserve to get fired. You're basically/potentially releasing company proprietary info out into the public, and that's a no-no. It'd be no different than the guy in the Navy who took pics of himself inside a nuclear submarine and then was charged and jailed for it (and subsequently discharged from the Navy). While the severity of the example of the guy in the Navy is drastically different than this woman doing a tik tok video, there could also be some other privacy issues she could have violated. If nothing else, she also titled the video "Exposing" Panera...so that's already implying that Panera was up to no good in the first place.

Your wage doesn't factor into this. If you pull a stunt like that anywhere, do not expect any employer to let you keep your job.

It’s pretty good I will say, frozen mac can be just as good as mac made from scratch.

Yeah it can be. It'd have to depend on how it's prepared though. I've had some mac n cheese at places where I wouldn't recommend. At all.

Ironically, Panera will likely get more flak for firing the woman than for their frozen mac'n'cheese.

She shouldn't have lost her job over it. Demanding this weird culture of institutional respect for the integrity of the brand, down to "protecting the proprietary secrets" of the preparation of a frozen meal, and placing that above an individual's need for employment (which in many cases is their only source of livelihood) is, to put it simply, ridiculous.

The thumbs up at the end explains why. It was mocking the company for one of their dishes. Would you keep an employee on hand at your business that posted a mocking video of something your company did?

That's one of the reasons why. But there's probably more than what the article stated. If anyone truly believes they shouldn't be fired for something like this, they can certainly try a similar stunt at their place of employment and see how long they get to keep their job. I wouldn't recommend it though. I've seen people get fired for less, and each company is certainly within their rights to do so.

I just want to know how old this lady is. If it was a teen I'd kind of get it (with most teens being social media crazy and all) and they probably would have stated as much, so this leads me to believe that she was in her mid to late 20's, if not older.

This could be the beginning of a profitable Youtube career. Her video received 6 million views, so I hope the free pub was worth it.

I haven't had Panera in a few years, but I always ended up getting the bread bowl cheddar broccoli soup. Love it.

As for the topic...a little harsh. A suspension without pay would've been my option.

Yeah a sacking is probably disproportionate - but you watch and see if anyone else does it.

We live in a culture where everyone wants to be a hero and an internet star. So you get people like this who don't read the fine print when they enter into a contract with an employer. It's not like rats were shitting in the food or employees were spitting in the sandwiches. You flash-freeze something, then you send to the company which employs your services. You heat and serve it to customers.

So what? Now she's suppose to be revered for making this "discovery?"

    LOLNope

And now that she's internet famous, I would not be surprised if other potential employers had second thoughts about hiring her. Because what is it she will be looking to record and upload for the world to see about another business? Stupid decision by this girl, and for what? Whoa, you exposed that Panera has a alternate method of serving a side dish! Bravo. Anyways....

    Yep, definitely a sackable offence.

Reminds me of the scene in Under Siege movie where the dancer practices her dance moves.

I liked Panera Bread back when I was still living in Texas but it was hella expensive to eat there.

The food being previously frozen doesn't shock me. It's not like PB ever claimed that all their stuff was made from scratch and made to order, I believe. They're a franchise chain and chains do this kinda thing to save both time (both theirs and the customer's) and money.

Only Wendy's seems to be against frozen stuff but that probably only applies to their beef patties/burgers and not to everything else on their menu. :D

I woke up 20 minutes ago with a hankering for Mac and cheese and then I found this thread.

I agree with Dark Skull. Common sense did not reach this person in time.
