Apprently while I was sleeping the morning and half the afternoon away this news hit the internet Toshiba is dropping HD DVD support, the format can now be considered dead. Looks light the mass rebuying of HDDVDs on Blu Ray can commence soon.

Here's the link to the article on Joystiq http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/16/toshiba-pulls-hd-dvd-support-blu-ray-wins/

Anyone here who hasn't bought Transformers in HD yet and owns an HDDVD player and is waiting a while to get Blu Ray should probably buy it now before it goes off shelves for good in a few weeks. That's probably going to be what happpens.

    Meh.

As I've said (numerous times) don't care for either format. My DVD player upscales (not quite the same as watching an actual HDDVD or Bluray disc, but I digress), I honestly don't give two shits or a fuck about the extra space on Bluray (and Sony backing Bluray certainly doesn't help the format for me). So yeah...wake me when Holodisc wins out.

Oh yes! Common Universal! I want Serenity and Hot Fuzz on Blu!!!

Awesome for the consumer. Format wars like these are useless. Hopefully as more people jump on the prices of HD media will also drop.

This is the one thing that does make me happy about this format war. The technophiles made the choice for the average joe. No offence but if they were the deciding group and bought into the HD formats now we'd see a 5 year plus format war probably. At least now its been settled before HD TVs become the norm. Its gonna be weird one day seeing the DVD name dissapear from stores and slowly get replaced by Blu-Ray. It would be nice if they changed it to Blu-Ray DVD so the average consumer understood what this format is.

Okay, now to wait for Microsoft to make a Blu-Ray player for the 360. If they do.

They said not too long ago that the idea was there, so I wouldn't be surprised at all to see it.
