    Hey guys,

I put down the CAD and Shapeways for the weekend and picked up Kreo again and holy crap, is it ever addictive.

    THE MISSION

Make a G1-style Devastator that can actually combine from two Kreo Devastator sets--no additional parts.

I also decided that while at it, make an update to the Kreo Ironhide--again, staying within the set and not grabbing from the parts bin.

    THE STORY

Okay, I really like Kreo Devastator, but it is kind of an odd mix of movie and G1 so I wondered, what if I could combine two sets to make a more true to G1 set, with CLEAR EVIDENCE of the 6 vehicles, treads, Mixmaster, proper hands--the whole nine yards? I decided that it was acceptable to break two rules:

    1. The vehicles don't have to all be green. There simply isn't enough green between the two kits.
    2. I'm allowed to grab a part or two for Mixmasters Barrel, since there clearly aren't the correct parts in the Kreo sets for a barrel.

    THE RESULT

Here's a quick before and after:

    Here are the separate vehicles:

    Okay, here's the transformation process:

    Scale-wise, he's a bit taller than Giant:

As you can see, I nabbed two grey Lego Rocket engines for Mixmaster--that's it. I could actually use the orange mixing barrels from the set, but they really stick out.

Any way it was a real riot making this guy. He's really heavy--he does stand, but he's really at the limit of the Kreo joints. But overall it was a great project, really enjoyed working with these sets!

IRONHIDE is in the next post...

    Project IRONHIDE

Many of you may have seen the special Kreo set that comes with Yellow Devastator and Kreo Ironhide. I decided to get this set (hence why I had two devastator sets, yeah, I had to have the Yellow and Green Kreo minifigures, lolzzzz)

Okay, the Kreo Ironhide isn't a bad sculpt. Nice details, kinda bulky. But the proportions DO NOT say G1 to me...not at all. So he got pulled apart pretty quickly and reassembled using TWO JOINTS from the devastor set (of which there are still dozens left over, even after building the big guy above)...otherwise, I'm ENTIRELY WITHIN THE IRONHIDE KIT.

    Okay, quick before and after:

    I used PP05 as a reference:

I sculpted the back to be a bit more interesting:

And here he is with Kreo Ratchet, also updated a bit to be appear like protoform brothers, although the Ratchet kit is very limiting. In the resculpt of Ratchet, I grabbed a few remaining Devy joints that were left over the G1 Devy build:

    That's it, that's all!!!

    Enjoy.

It is sorta frustrating to see folks make better use of the source material than even Hasbro's people can. That said, very nice. And I don't even like Kreo.

Does Kreo Devestator parts-form or is he fully transformable. Also if his is a parts-former, how much does he parts form?

Nice! How long did it take to build the dev? I thought about getting a set but not sure I have the time. I know for sure I don't have time to do a build like yours.

The good news: Very little parts-forming. Hook pivots like Giant/Hercules, and the head is on a hinge. Long Haul has many, many joints to transform too.

Hinges swing up and hide in Bonecrusher and Scavenge, and Scavenger and Mixmaster have ankle-pivots.

There are few parts to detach...typical Devy stuff like forearms and the front wing. The only other exception is the top of Long Haul, which does stow on his back but must be detached/reattached.

I'd say about 8-10 hours from sort to photos....

Thanks for all the feedback. I am considering making instructions...I'm assuming a few people would actually build it? Note that it is a bit wobbly/finicky....but I'm sure there's still room for improvement and I'm happy to share.
