You can always get an Akane Shinjo from SSSS.Gridman until they make a real SG Prime.

 

I don't think I've ever commented on any SSSS Gridman designs before.

I really admire the way they've incorporated Transformers design elements and colour schemes into their designs.

Every one I've seen looks so well put-together and fits into the series aesthetic so well without looking like a girl wearing a Transformers cosplay, but once you start drawing comparisons, like the post above, the inspiration is obvious.

Gridman dialed it back to subtle nods and not have anything that would be out of the ordinary on a normal person. Impressive, but you have to go in knowing that's what they're doing.

My brain files this with the Optimus THONGS. Cuz clearly there's a market for sexy Optimus, but... I don't get it. Then again, I'm assuming those thongs were sold to women...

 

oh wow, I didn't realize she came with a mouthplate mask

that was the one thing that really seemed to be lacking from an Optimus look

Just you wait until we get country girl Ironhide...

 

I doubt Ironhide is going to be portrayed that way. I think the personality of these statues is being driven by their Japanese portrayal, not their American counterparts, and I don't think Japan knows Ironhide as a good ol' Texan boy.

I don't get any of Peter Cullen's G1 Optimus Prime from the Bishoujo statue. The physical characteristics match what we know Optimus to look like, but the voice and the personality Cullen gave Optimus isn't there.
From what I understand, in the Japanese dub of the Sunbow animation, Tesshō Genda's Convoy was portrayed as a stoic, dependable leader, which Cullen's Optimus definitely was, but there's something about Cullen's portrayal that is intangible and undeniably American.

Maybe it's the bit of John Wayne swagger in Cullen's Optimus voice, a slight midwest drawl, that makes me picture Optimus as a Wyoming rancher dressed in jeans, boots, a flannel shirt and a white stetson hat.
That's how I would've dressed a Bishoujo Optimus girl, but that's entirely because I think of Peter Cullen, not Tesshō Genda when I think of Optimus Prime.

Getting back to Ironhide, I've seen artwork depicting Bishoujo Megatron in the attack on the Autobot shuttle sequence in Transformers: The Movie and in that art we can see a little of Ironhide with a red mohawk hairstyle and dressed in a red t-shirt and some kind of dark gray vest with pronounced shoulderpads.
I expect, should a Bishoujo Ironhide be created, she would end up similar to that artwork, as a tough punk type character.

Meh. Not a fan of the masked versions of Prime. The idea is outfits that, while stylish, still translate to clothing someone would wear. A face plate like that sorta breaks immersion and turns it in to "Transformer cosplayer."

 

That's awesome! I hadn't seen the Megatron costume.

The military uniform details on the Megatron design, such as the sidecap and the fringed epaulettes really do it for me.
That one really feels like Megatron, not just in look but also in attitude.
