From what I've seen in the reviews, the BMB has slightly different articulation on both sides. Both have a ball-joint thumb and each finger can swivel independently of the rest, though there's only one joint per digit (no/fixed knuckles). However, the joint on the right hand fingers is at the first knuckle away from the palm to allow for the tail transformation, meaning it can't open up as wide. The right hand also has no wrist rotation for the same reason.

(12:58 he details the hand articulation)

That's weird... Mmm, I can't seem to find the post now, but I swear I saw somewhere that Black Mamba was going to release an updated part for their Grimlock so that the eyes would light up in dino mode, along with a mini-Optimus Prime. As far as I can, my copy of Black Mamba Grimlock does not light up in dino mode... The eyes are actually painted, I think...

    Edited:
    Here it is:
KO (probably OS): MPM-5 Barricade, Studio Series Grimlock and more...

Where can I order the wj version that will guarantee it comes with a mini-prime?

I just bought the BMB not too long ago from Taobao and confirmed that it does have the lighting feature. Looks like mine is the 2nd batch production.

I just ordered from Terry, he indicates 1st run preorders will include mini-prime.

I gave my stepdaughter my BMB, she loves it.

From limited pics and videos, the paint on the WJ looks a bit more refined than on the BMB, more like worn and weathered metal vs dry brush strokes. Hopefully that's what we'll get on the final productions.

That Xmas tree of a spear/lance however, is ridiculous.

@unicron nemesis Did they improve the ankle tilt on the Wei Jiang version? One thing I didn't like on the Hasbro release is that I couldn't get a decently wide stance while keeping both feet flat on the ground. I heard that the BMB version had the same issue.

Can you confirm if the Wei Jiang has a wider range on the ankle tilt? That might end up being the deciding factor for me.

Lastly, I don't get the hate on the cone tail spear weapon. Yes I know it's inaccurate, but personally I think it looks cool and makes a better looking tail in dino mode.

Unfortunately I can't give any confirmation on the ankle tilt as I've not handled the Hasbro version before.

Ah I see. Thanks anyway for the response. If it's not too much trouble, are you at least able to take a pic of the widest stance you can manage on the Wei Jiang with both feet still flat on the ground?

I personally like that scaling. I thought the Dinobots were too big in the movies.

Apologies again. Have already passed the figure back to the shop (ohmyprimus). But what I've done in the photos is about as wide as he can go.

From what i can tell, they did something to the feet to give the ball joints more clearance.

Best comparison pic I could capture off the latest video of all three. BMB on the Left, Wei Jiang Middle and Studio Series left.

As you can see, the massing and size of Black Mamba Ancient Leader is what I consider significantly more. It may only be c4cm taller but the overall massing looks greater than 8% proportionally.

Also note Black Mamba's eyes are not turned on. Having seen the 2 head sculpts, I would say Black Mamba's is a bit better and overall with the mace looks closer to the film, Wei Jiang is slightly better coloured though. Wei Jiang has to be worth buying for the Dino Mode and the mini Prime which are awesome.

To be honest, I was interested in this Grimlock because I didn't like how BMB did the neck and WJ did much more but the tail isn't cohesive with the rest of the alt-mode, I have the SS Grimlock already so I wanted him it robot mode while the OS one could stay in alt mode... now I just want that tiny Optimus Prime, will they sell him separately? I'd gladly pay $20 for him haha.
