Did the same swap as @ErickCruz putting the solid black loop hip springs from my Red Grimlock (he's my gold plastic torso insurance) and managed to pull off this rather more dynamic pose - on a slippy surface faux-wood panelling floor to boot!

I'm planning on taking a leaf from @Ultra Reverb's book as well but, as I'm wary of rubber/rubberised plastic after the whole melting TF parts with ROTF Bludgeon's treads and Siege Effect parts, I've bought some small compression springs to try out as hip grip enhancement. Now to wait for them to get on with the experiment!

No issues at all (for the most part). I custom painted the red OS Grimlock into a black/purple metallic paint job with water based acrylic paint. Look up Larkin's Lair customs on YouTube for great examples of the power ranger colored KOs to G1 colors.
For touchups and and spot customizing you shouldn't have any worries.
My only warning is for what I mentioned while painting Grimlocks crotch area red using automotive touch up paint, which is a lacquer based acrylic paint, I laid it on a bit too thick and while trying to thin it out with solution the plastic did have a reaction, and because that plastic is very solid it didn't melt but just bit, but had i applied it to the thinner plastic like the grey plastic it might have been disastrous.
If you're planning on using enamels then just be mindful of how much you plan to thin the paint and I recommend you use a primer as a protective layer between the plastic and paint.

Can't wait to get these figures, ordered them well over a month ago from sirtoys, but they have been held up in Chicago in customs since the 11th with no change in tracking since, hoping it is just all this coronavirus trouble holding things up but am starting to get a bit worried.

My springs arrived today, and I popped 'en straight in OSKO Volcanicus Rex, and the results were minimal if any. His legs hold as well as the did after the hip spring swap, possibly a slight increment better it's difficult to say, even though I tried the joints in comparison with one sprung and one not, it was so close I couldn't rule out a placebo/psychological want for it to work being at play.
I'd guesstimated on going for 6mm diameter spring steel compression springs of 10mm length and they compressed and slotted into the plastic loop hip springs very easily but not packed so tightly that they didn't have room for some give still, so I reckon if you wanted more tension in there 15mm might be the length to go for (and you could always trim it down if too tight and tensioning).
I thought I'd try a couple of the spares in Hasbro Volcanicus but, while it did really improve the tension in official Grimlock's hips markedly, once combined he was still flopping all over the place. It really seems that the heft of the die cast in the limbs really helps stabilise the combined Dinos.

I've got so much mail gone missing / delayed now it's flipping silly. Makes me reluctant to buy anything else to be honest.
I wanted to buy a slash on ebay but noone ever listed her there that I could see.

With this configuration using Slag & Sludge as legs, Volcanicus height can be boosted to 15 inches / 38 cm:

Of course, Slag & Sludge need to have tight hips and knees for this to work.

But now Volcanicus is a head taller than my NBK Gravity Builder KO...

    I can work with that!

Of course, he still dwarfs the undersized CBB CW Devy:

Are you trying to increase the tension of these boxes? I sliced a pencil eraser to match the width of the box and slipped it right in. Made a huge difference for mine.

Did anyone make a backpack on Shapeways that allows swoop to be on grimlocks back in combined mode?

You sir are a genius! This design looks a lot like Abominus's hip ratchets. I bet the eraser trick would work for him too!

I was but after the whole plasticizer affair I am squeamish about possibly using the wrong kind of rubber so I went with springs. I think I'm gonna leave it at that as, after swapping in the complete loop springs from my spare Red Grimlock (originally bought for gold torso insurance, and to swap out the Volcanicus y-fronts to "Proper" Dinobot red), he's standing pretty well, and still way better than the Hasbro original which he actually did from the off.

I don't have OS grimlock yet, still on the boat. How big is his head in comparison to titans master grimmy? Has anyone made a titan master potp grimlock?

Grimlock's fist holes are 7 mm correct?

Someone design a crown for grimlock in combined mode.

All the OSKO Dinos are roughly 5.9 - 6mm ports.

The combiner fist pegs? On mine they were mostly 6mm to a generous 6mm, sometimes so generous I had to shave down the pegs on the fists that came with Slash as they would stress the chest holes for combined mode otherwise.

I don't understand what you mean by "outside diameter" and which fist pegs you are referring to? Could you circle them on a picture or otherwise illustrate what you're referring to?
