$229? It's not bad if that's the shipped price, but still more than I'm willing to pay. It's not something I NEED..

    That price is pushing it.

However, if it's OS and good quality (looking at you, MPP10), I'd still bite.

So, word from my local store is that this company is a shell company formed by Maketoys/Fansproject. The units being sold are original Utopias that have not passed QC inspections (loose joints, slight chipping).

It is rumored that Maketoys are doing this to get rid of the defective but passable Utopia units, of which there are a significant number lying around (they most likely did not profit as much as they wanted to from the mould). For these units it will only be a matter of producing new boxes for shipping.

    Well, that's interesting.

At $230 I'm not interested in a regular Utopia. Especially for one that hasn't cleared QC.

It's pretty much well known that Utopia has not been selling well. IMHO, the price point is all wrong.

Totally agree on $230 not being priced "right". I'd venture that not more than $150 plus is the "correct" level. It's certainly the max for me.

And that's just the price hurdle - if they are QC failures, that's a whole new ballgame. Not automatically a dealbreaker for me (I bought a reject MP-09), but there's a lot more to consider. Will poke around a little to see what's up.

I don't think so. Because Gemini is not a new company, it's been there for 2 or 3 years, it made KO same-size MP10, and OS mp08X Grimlock before. Both sell pretty well.

This is the link it announced MP10 KO back in 2013.
    [???]KO? ???? ??? MP10 ???OP ?????? ... - ???? - 78???? ???? www.78dm.net - Powered by Discuz!

From the signature you can find its Taobao website: Http://zwii.taobao.com
Which has the KO MT Utopia.
    And even this:

Someone in Singapore's opened a preorder for this at about 170 USD. Will wait to see if more preorders appear/price goes down. Other option is as per usual; buy from Taobao.

Yes, it appears to be upscaled now. The TF Direct listing now has it showing as 60cm / 24" tall.

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. I had the Hasbro SDCC one and was very happy with it. It's vehicle mode is crap, yes, but it's city mod can be tweaked quite a bit. In fact, I prefer "my" city mode of Hasbro's over Utopia's default city mode. So there was never an urge to jump on that mold for me. But as oversized?!??!, man, he would make an awesome space carrier.

Seems hard to believe that there'd be two Utopia KOs going on at the same time.

If that is true and not total BS like most internet rumors, there is no way I'm buying a defective toy at any price.
I would assume they must be fixing up the units before selling, otherwise they are gonna piss off a lot of people who probably won't buy from them ever again.

I was wondering about this one. I would totally be on board if this project is still alive.
