I decided to give Kingdom Rodimus Prime a much needed facelift. I know I'm not the first to do this, but I trimmed his chin, painted his eyes a Sky Blue, and mixed Gloss Gray and Gloss White to make a good gray for his face.
i like it. i think that old man face was a little too old man. Softening it up with the paint worked good.
Man, painting the face a nice grey rather than the silver helps the figure so much. The silver is just way too hard on the sculpted cheekbones, it makes him look ancient. Nice job!
Mod and color look great but I would recommend adding some flat paint in your mix next time. Too shiny.
I never disliked the silver on Rodimus' face, but this paint job really fixes what I think was the biggest flaw. It's not so much that the sculpt was "too old," but that the face being silver and eyes being dark blue made it feel like a totally different character than Hot Rod. Now that the colours match (and the chin less exaggerated) it feels much more like this is an upgrade of the SS Hot Rod toy and less a disparate Rodimus created in a vacuum.
See I would have used some cucumber slices to get rid of those bags under the eyes but your way looks much better. Anyway great work making that gray. It really works well.
