Okay, so overall... keeping in mind he's Core/Legends scale I think he looks pretty good as an update to the original toy. Also, interesting to see that they appear to be going for realistic-looking beast modes rather than the stylized ones from the show. Actually, to be that that guy, I believe concurrent would be more appropriate in this case.
Hmm...just noticed this guy has some pretty bad Visible Head Syndrome. And you can't even flip it around, since the back of the head has fur detail for part of the beast mode. I wonder why designers keep leaving visible faces in alt mode...even as a little kid I always hated it and would flip the face around to hide it as best I could. Surely the developer must know how unsettling Visible Head Syndrome is. So why do it?
Also works, but I thought he was going for the slightly more out-of-the-box phrasing. Because generally the alt-modes aren't designed to be visually attractive from the underside, anyways.
Aw...also, I think I missed the Core Class Starscream leak. Got a link to where he told us this? *Sighs.*
Not entirely sure what you expected, though, considering Rattrap's character design is pretty damned shell-formery. But the small size class means the toy has to be pretty efficient in how it uses its mass.
I don't think this guy is going to replace the Thrilling 30 figure but I do like it. I'll probably get one for my nephew so he can use it to scare my sister just like I used the original to freak out my mom, good times.
There's a difference between some random robot kibble and a face. Even when I'm not looking directly at the face, I know it's just sticking out there. Honestly it was even worse when I was a kid, because I would see it more often while I was actively playing with the toy. But even now, I hate it.
without battlemasters perhaps the netflix line will use core class stuff so i wonder if i should wait because i can imagine netflix optimus primal including rattrap with a better deco
I think you hit the nail on the head here. I’ve been nitpicking him, but I wasn’t really sure why I was so disappointed in this. It’s the lack of functionality. It just feels like a more advanced version of the original and the lack of functionality like the effect part pegs and the lack of 5mm ports really makes this feel like a product of the past. There’s no aesthetic or functional cohesion with the current lines.
my two cents: pros - robot head sculpt, transformation looks fun, scale looks good, gun sculpt. cons - beast head sculpt too narrow, robot feet (like seriously.. what is going on there?), robot shoulders facing forward, lack of paint on robot legs and beast mode tail, odd large forearm proportions - overall proportions are just off both in robot mode and rat mode, no front leg articulation.
