So in order to properly lock Galv's chestplate and shoulders together in cannon mode, you are supposed to pull the chestplate down and away from the bottom of the cannon so you can slide the shoulder tabs downwards, from the top, into the slots in the chest; then to transform back into robot mode, you pull the chestplate down, and lift the shoulder tabs upwards to slide them out. You are NOT supposed to do what the amount of "give" available suggests, which is to simply shove the shoulder tab sideways into the chest slot, then later yank it sideways out. Right? From what I have seen so far, that shoulder tab is only used in cannon mode and has no function in robot mode - and if you are so gentle / squeamish about potentially damaging the tab that you don't lock it into place, you wind up in exactly the same circumstance anyway. Either the tab has no function because you aren't using it, or the tab has no function because it got flattened and can't be used. The chest on mine seems to be held in place well enough by joint friction that the tab doesn't seem to be absolutely necessary - but I think I will keep trying to get it to work.
