Yeah, it was a half-assed attempt at an Earth mode. I don't even know what were they thinking.

Kingdom Rodimus has shown that a better executed Earth Magnus can work as a Commander Class.

They might have, if the hands happened to be on the sprues designated for replacement. But obviously that's not how the molds worked out.

Ironic that you say Kingdom Galvatron has Gorilla arms considering the odd articulation/lack of wrist swivel on Mania King haha

Oh, I actually don't mind Kingdom Mags besides that, and I quite admire the Earth restyling still being a bit "futuristic"/Space-y but it would have been a nice extra.
It helps that I skipped Siege Mags as I'm not a fan of designs that omit his "Aviators" that the Kingdom does bang on IMO.

Would’ve been nice for this guy to have articulated hands out of the box, but I’m not too peeved given that it should be fairly easy for a 3rd party company to release a set of upgraded hands. And maybe some forearm gap covers, while they’re at it.

Quiet, we don't nee that awkward dude in here pumping up Galvatron's size with his cringey proportion-ignoring "upgrades".

Oddly, the more pictures I see comparing it to TR's version (Kingdom Galvatron first look), the worse he's looking... too much of a barrel body, the alt mode looks patched together and badly planned. Aside the head (that the last pictures seem to show that it looks too stretched out) that was the best feature, has lost points the more pictures I see.

I am not one that gets locked into the "accuracy" thing, I prefer better look and such of a figure/alt mode over it.

    Robot observation from those images:
KD:very squarish, barrel, proportions are off, he actually really looks very inspired to the original toy, which was a fairly bad toy.

TR: better proportions, the hips, for example, don't look tacked on as an afterthought. the shoulder pylons are more shoulder shields but the figure is still quite recognizable. The arms and legs are just overall better looking and shaped. The feet are clearly nicer looking.

    Artillery mode:
from the additional images here: Kingdom Galvatron first look
KD: looks terrible to be honest... as if nothing pegs together correctly, lots of parts that don't seem to connect together.. it's not fluid. To get an higher angle, we see how bad the arms/thread engineering appears to be, it's a single joint holding those threads like that. It's just wince worthy. And the back is an empty mess, again, looking like the engineers did the usual "good enough, it will sell like this" that I've seen so much of in some WFC figures.

TR: not perfect either, but at least doesn't look like an afterthought that he'd transform into this. It's more fluid, and the arms/treads allow for for a better range (as does the back that aesthetically looks better) Considering that it has a third "spaceship" mode, I would believe that a bit of the artillery mode was slightly sacrificed to accommodate that. The front of the cannon is much more involved and "advanced" looking, which ends up making the KD version look outdated, and much cheaper looking for it (but again, they did appear to aim for the G1 toy look).

Just my observations.. no hate towards the new one as it does have it's appeal to those that want a more G1 toy-esque version that also manages to get the cartoon version look, but I think that it't another case of what we've seen with Blurr and Kup, where the TR are better in many ways, but some simply prefer these new version as they are closer to what they perceive as the closer to their vision of the cartoon made real thing.

I’m kind of impressed that the only hollowness in robot mode is just behind his wrists where his hands fold in. No big boy calf gaps for this chunk

How hard do you think a Kingdom to Siege headswap would be? I like the Kingdom head better but prefer the Siege body.

Let me reiterate: No one is holding TR Galvatron up as some sort of high bar to reach. It's a low bar, and the new figure clears that bar in most respects.

Here's the thing: it stands to reason that if Galvatron was never a favorite of yours that you might not see anything wrong with this. It doesn't have to measure up to the weight of expectations that have built up from months not to mention years of anticipation.

I'm a big fan of TF:TM designs, and the Floro Dery aesthetic. They are among my favorite things in the franchise. All I can say is that this figure has the ingredients, but it doesn't have the right flow. It's 90% there in the most uninspired sense, and maybe that's enough for most people. For me, it's good enough for now, but hardly the final word on Galvatron. They've left substantial room for improvement.

Perhaps there'll be a Masterpiece, or maybe in another 5 years they'll give it a do-over and you will see what I mean.

The more I see this, the less I like it. There are elements not intrical to the transformation that have bad proportions.

I can't help but think they do this on purpose. Make "slight" improvements each time to keep us buying more and more.

New Age did it better at a fraction of the size.

It's kind of objectively impossible to make that claim without actually handling both products, but you do you
