These were announced at TFcon Toronto 2014. I figure it's best to just have one thread for all the scorpion mold cassettes.

I had heard rumors that there were lots of animal cassettes on the drawing board of KFC, so this seems to be the first of them.

Obviously they are homages to Scorponok, Black Zarak and Double Punch.

Other potential recolors could include G1 Stinger, Pretender Pincher, Action Master Partner Scorpulator, Beast Wars Scorponok, Quickstrike and Poisonbite, Botcon Sandstorm, movie Scorponok... I believe SG Beast Wars Scorponok has been depicted in Botcon Sandstorm colors.

Any other ideas? Maybe the Monster GoBot Scorp?

Very much looking forward to these!! But really, Keith needs to get Overslay and Haymaker out before a discussion of further tapes should even be relevant.

I think all Keith's work of manufacturing is done on Overslay and Haymaker at this point. It's just getting them packed and shipped out.

That's great news! Hoping the QC is miles better than his first tapes. Even those weren't altogether horrible. Just needed a few touches to really take them to the next level though, so hopefully Haymaker/Overslay benefit.

I have to take some credit for these, as I talked with Keith months ago , sent info, and pushed for this idea and also a G1 Stinger, which is not seen as of yet. However, I had no clue what they would look like or which ones they would do. I am glad to see this new mold and know that many fans have been wanting this type of cassette . (Stinger)
I feel Overslay and Haymaker will be better , but understand that working with such small scale parts is very hard to keep them from breaking with our bigger hands and all the force people sometimes use to transform them.

I want to Thank You Keith & KFC for doing these cassettes and I will be buying my share of all of your bots. We have no one else even making G1 size cassettes and don't think any other company will be in the future.

    See, many have tried:

Great info. Glad to see the grand-daddies of the design. You can see the influence.

I love TF cassettes but, is it just me, or do the KFC cassettes not look anything like actual cassettes in alt mode? The scorpion designs on these are exquisite, but they just look like odd blocky rectangles in alt-mode. It kind of misses the point doesn't it? I think Tom Servo's above Shapeways design compares favourably with these newest offerings. My 2¢.

Your right and I understand what your saying. This is the thing though, if you put labels and make one side look truly like a cassette like G1, then the way these new up-dated bots transform will show those labels in bot modes. It's a trade off I guess. It's like MP Ratbat from Takara, you see the labels/print on the wings in beast mode when transformed.
The labels on G1 cassettes stayed on one side and you could display the other.
Now KFC cassettes transform all kinds of ways, so the printing would be all over the place. I think it would be nice to see more tape detail then we sometimes get. Maybe put the MC 60 , Micro cassette , Metal Position, side A & B and painted tape reels.

I think it'd look great if they had tape label details all over in their alt-modes; it'd make them recognizable as tapes, the same way we recognize car and plane elements on other TFs' robot modes.

Yes. That's exactly what's missing. :thumb
I might actually bother to buy some KFC cassettes if they started looking like cassettes; it's what sets them far apart from their G1 origins.

Depends on the cassette. There are multiple designers working on them, and some work in cassette details, others do not.

Bad bat has reels on one side, for instance, but no large flat surface to print words on...

    Rhinohorn has painted details...

I think Keith has quite a list of recolor ideas already, but there's also the G2 Scorpia watch-bot.

I'd probably be one of the few insane G2 fans that would buy it though. It's about as obscure as you can get. :lol

So far I'm in for Scorpulator if it gets made. Maaaybe Double Punch; I do love those colors, but I already have the Botcon version.

Of course, this is probably a moot point, they'll inevitably get paired with some other toy I don't want.

Yeah, KFC's older cassettes used to have more cassette detail. it looks like they tried a bit harder to get both a cassette and a lion, rhino, etc in the design. I still have all of their tapes so far, but I do also wish there was more tape detail on them.

I do love the look of the scorpion cassettes, but I'm still waiting for the Black Lion Ironpaw. That guy was announced at last year's TFCon!

Boy, I HOPE we don't have to wait that long to get these scorpion cassettes. Overslay and Haymaker have been held up for 6 months and we should get them very soon this July. (I know for QC) and my bet it was Overslays Legs.
Overslay looks very cool to transform and was designed by Eagle, the guy who did Swoop,Rinohorn, and Ironpaw that started KFC off.

I told Keith that collectors wanted a G1 STINGER Cassettes that was first in the write up for the Transformers cartoon the Movie in the 80's, but was taken out w/Stripes and Ramhorn and Steeljaw were put in.

I said that Stinger would look cool Tan in color with Orange parts threw out. This would be it's own character as if he was made in the 1980's. Kind of like Stripes when Takara come out with him in the Encore run as a re-painted Ravage.
However, Keith seems to be making these from other known characters in the line already made. I told him their was a lot of repaints he could do with the mold if he would do it.

I've heard mixed reviews about the KFC cassettes in general, mainly the combiners. I'm under the impression that the plastic snaps/stresses in a lot of instances. I liked the first two ideas of the lion and rhino, but have stayed away bc they don't fit in G1 Soundwave

Not really interested in this as Scorpinok, but I would be into one as Stinger. But is Keith planning on making one with unique colours? Or are we stuck with just deciding on one to be Stinger?

I guess it doesn't matter as the movie script doesn't contain any pictures. Maybe the Dark Scorpinok version would work best ... there are black scorpions out there.
