If they ever felt the need to "code" Optimus as 'black', he'd be a perfect fit.

He's one of those actors who puts 100% into his roles.

Hell, he'd make for a decent Grimlock.

 

The list of characters that he could do and do well is damned long: Optimus, Megatron, Grimlock, Tarn, and Unicron are the main ones that come to mind. Frankly, I think he'd be wasted on Barricade.

Honestly I have to wonder if it's easier to list characters he wouldn't be a good fit for.

 

Ugh. Yes. He has such perfect tonal / subtlety control. He was already one of my top picks for Tarn before Alex Milne mentioned it, because you'd need someone who could roll their voice with precision while simultaneously lowering it for that deep, hypnotizing point-one percenter power. Actually speaking of IDW, he'd also make a driven and powerful Tyrhest.

As Tracks is my favorite G1 Autobot, I was bummed that we only got him for five seconds in Animated when Townsend Coleman did such a bang-up job on his one line. You'd swear they just plucked Michael McConnohie right out of the 80s sound booth. That said, this idea is an interesting one as neither Sunstreaker nor Tracks sound anything like Keith, but I'm down for the change. He's a master of shifting moods, so a fickle personality would be a good fit.

I didn't think of either of these and now I wish I had. Great picks! Tigatron is another one that comes to mind, as others have said- if you're not going to rehire Blu, at least pick a worthy successor. Blu's voice is so unique on its own, it would be difficult to cast just anyone. Y'know, assuming that the voice director actually cared, or watched the source material...

Yes to all of these. Although I wouldn't mind him reprising Barricade if it was a side role, unless they gave him a decent amount of character development and screentime. Lockdown would be another potential character to fall into this category- good in small doses, not large amounts.

Interesting. He could handle the wisdom and gravity easily- I like where this is going

Going to second Cyclonus, BW Rampage, and Depth Charge as well. He could act the snot out of a Cyclonus written with that honorable warrior bent as a central theme. Give him a more complex range. But man, he'd be a worthy successor to the late Campbell Lane.

Prowl, Jazz, and Overlord would be three more personal picks. If Death's Head were ever to make a cartoon apprentice, hey. He'd be great for that too. The possibilities with this man are sky high, really.

I can see him as Tarn or Cryotek. Prime Predaking would also be a good fit for him.

 

Yea, I was thinking of the mentor type characters he's played when I mentioned Alpha Trion, I think it'd be a good part for him.

 

I don't know if I agree with him voicing Tarn. Whenever I read Tarn I imagined him sounding, eloquent, theatrical, not necessarily deep; akin to Vince Price, or someone like him. I'm not too familiar with Keith David's work but I associate him with suave, or "badass" characters, which doesn't fit Tarn. I agree with the other suggestions in this thread: Tigatron, Scourge, Jazz, etc

 

His role in "The Cape" was rather theatrical if memory serves.

 

The problem is they loop back around and become good ideas. G1 Wheelie for instance. I need to see him do Arcee. I needs it!

 

The answer is simple. A transformer named Keith David lol honestly they are very few roles he wouldn't do great in. But if i had to choose. I'd put him in a mentor role Probably an UltraMagnus to Rodimus type deal.

Tarn is a fucking edgelord punk that sucks up to bigger figures aka megatron, i wouldnt want a chump voice but Keith is too good for that slimeball.


Shockwave, Motormaster, Scourge are imo far more comanding characters.

Grimlock isn't my first choice, but damn if it ain't a good one.

 

considering alex milne said that david was his ideal voice of tarn, thats the obvious choice.

And more importantly, HE'S IN THE FRANCHISE now, meaning he most likely can and will do more characters in the future. I do not imagine this is a one off thing for any of the popular big names, unless they choose not to.
