Best idea. Exactly my thoughts.
I think not so much this
And so much more this. Really I think Transformers will eventually go the way of Star Wars toys, where the vintage stuff retains its value but the recent stuff is fairly worthless: because as production technology advances, the figures will continue to improve and Hasbro will continue to make the same characters over and over.
Personally if I had to get rid of anything I'd get rid of everything EXcEPT my G1 and Classics toys, but that's mainly because I have more of a connection to those characters than anything else I have. I don't even think abut valu since I collect out of enjoyment, not because they'll retain value or whatever. But the point is its a personal thing. Get rid of what you want to, not what someone on the internet tells you to.
I'd say go for a mix - keep whatever you think is the best version of a character.
I'd agree with the "Keep both G1 and CHUG" and get rid of all else. Either that, or look into a better way to store. I solved this problem myself by streamlining what I actually followed, and only pursue ones that are currently coming out, and only picking up G1s as they sort of fall into my lap.
Even though I really like Animated, I'd say get rid of it, only because if you really want to you can easily go back and purchase what you like from Animated. CHUG and G1 will be much more difficult to do so. Also, don't get sucked into having "rare" G1 pieces as your favorites. I really suckered myself for years thinking G1 rare bots were my favorite ones, when really it was only a select few from my childhood I had any real interest in. So in the end, keep what you really enjoy and what kindles that nostalgia the most.
Sell Geewun, acquire more Classics.
What is CHUG? I'm personally not a fan of the Classics. I much prefer the G1 stuff.
Pretty much the modern G1 inspired figures
To me the CHUG stuff just looks and feels cheap for the most part. There are exceptions like Kup but most of them look like KOs to me. I don't like a lot of the post G1 animated movie toys for the same reason.
Keep the G1.
G1 are the originals.. All others are afterthoughts.
I've been thinking from time to time do I really need to keep my Vintage Turtles Figures -- but despite that I don't often play with them I think I would regret selling them.
I think I might ditch my Comic collection though I really do not have a use for it (bar the cool stuff i'd never sell my MASK comics or Transformers) - I just wonder if a bunch of mainline titles from the 80's are actually worth anything.
Maybe you have something else you can sell - Got a bit of random Clarice Cliffe floating about sort of thing ?
wow there is a lot more ppl in their 30s on here than i thought. now i dont feel so bad since im fixin to turn 34 lol
I'm in the camp of folks saying just lump 'em together and keep the ones you like better.
Get rid of the so-called "Classics".
Keep the REAL Classics....original G1 is all you need my friend!
Well said.....I love my CHUGS, but G1 is historical.
Personally speaking, it'd be way too hard for me to let either of those go. It's a beautiful thing when you have a 1984 G1 Prime on the shelf and the shelf below has the updated Classics version of Prime. If I absolutely had too I would look into ditching another part of your collection. I'd keep the Classics and the G1's while sacrificing Animated or a Movie line possibly.
