It's a rough position to be in. The DGA will only allow one credited director as per union rules (even the Coen bros., who everyone KNOWS co-direct every movie they do, are not both allowed a director credit. They have to choose one of themselves to take it), and no matter how much Whedon may have contributed, Snyder still did all the pre-production work and the bulk of the directing, and would anyone want to take that credit away from him when he had to step away for the reason he did? You'd have to be willing to look like a complete sociopath d-bag for all time. Couldn't possibly be worth it for Whedon's career or industry relationships, even if he wanted the credit.

 

Maybe Whedon is smart. If the movie sucks, its not his name on screen as director.
